Possible transmission failure. any ideas?

Yesterday i was backing out of my friends driveway when i heard a loud clunk. i thought it was my exhaust dragging so i thought nothing of it. but today every time i shift it sounds like the transmission is about to fall out of the car. so when i pull in my driveway and jack up my car i see transmission fluid leaking out of the driverside axle bearing. the fluid is reddish with metal flakes in it. i am bringing it to my dealership but i would like to know if anyone has any ideas about what happened to my car so i can compare it to what the dealership tells me. note: i have not driven my car hard since this summer. and it was alos about 19 degrees at the time. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

no one knows anything about this??

bump

Cracked tranny case. Metal flakes means you were grinding gears or making something unhappy in there.

I'm guessing without looking. If it is a case, good luck. Could be something simpler.

yea i dont see any major cracks. but it is hard to see that area in the dark. could it be a bearing seal?

My tranny blew up shifting into 2nd gear at 33473MI. The replaced it with out a problem but it took forever because they had to order it from sweden. i didn't have my car for about a month. But GM paid for a rental car the whole time it cost them over $800 for an 08 G6 GT.
