Shifter Problem. Dealer can not fix.

Shifter knob came off and striped out the threads in the shifter shaft.
There is a permanent back order on the shifter shaft. Because the company that was making it has stopped production and decided not to make any more GMC parts.
The dealer has drilled and retaped shaft to place a different screw to hold it for know until GMC figures out how to get the part made.

I will be installing my Hurst soon. The OEM shifter is cheap and will break again. Trust me, i've gone thru two already. They won't replace it anymore.

My Shifter Knob is Broken on mine I ordered the part back in March of last year and still no word. I check in with the dealer every other week and it still says Back Order.
I have mine glued on and put a bigger screw in the top of it too.

I was thinking about going after market but my dealer told me that if I install the part it will void the warranty.

They will need to install it and it will run me two hours at $75.00 not including they will have to order it through their accessory department. WHich I think is BullSHit.

um..the stock knob is just pressed onto the shaft. the only bolt in the whole thing is the little torx bolt at the top that pretty much serves no purpose. the knob is pressed on though, so it shouldnt come off that easily. i had to pry mine off with 2 screwdrivers when i put my hurst in..

I know they are ********... I really don't care anyway.. I am probably going to get a Short throw soon. I can't take that stupid trim piece falling off every week.

I will just put it back to stock when my lease is up in two years.

I know ya got yours fixed, but I have some info for the others that might not. The part numbers that most dealers is goin to order for the 06-07 SS/SC shifters are on national backorder. But, the old number, the original part number for those shifters, GM has plenty in stock. Most GM dealerships doesn't even think about trying to find out the old number and to check to see if it is still available.

Below is the original number that is still available and the new number that is on national back order. All the Dealership has to know is the old number and they can order it and get it in in a day or 2.

original: 15854364
new: 25815049
