Sturdier Fuel Pump?
Sturdier Fuel Pump?
So I just pulled my fuel tank. I had a broken fuel pump. The motor still works but the springs were in the bottom of the tank and the bottom half of the pump was just dangling in the tank. I just got this pump replaced 60,000 miles ago at a mechanic shop (they charged me $800 btw wtf!? Not a $800 job imo after pulling it myself). The original pump lasted 144,000 miles and that was after the motor actually burned out. I'm wondering if anyone makes a good sturdy fuel pump that I can buy so that this doesn't happen again. I've looked around but there are reviews to give me a good idea of how sturdy these pumps are.
Right now I'm looking at this one

Or this one

My vehicle isn't qualified for any recalls btw.

Ouch. $800 is a lot for that job.
ACDelco is an OE supplier and is half the price of the other. IMO, that makes the choice easy.
If you want a higher volume pump, AEM and Walbro are both solid choices; not quite as "drop-in" as the OE package though.
Also, when are you refueling? 1/4 tank? E? Half-past E (aka fumes)? And are you filling the tank all the way? Seems silly, but I've seen people that will only put a quarter tank in, then run it down to fumes, and continually repeat that process. It's not good for the pump.

So I decided to post this just in case someone else has the same problem that I did. So this is where my fuel pump broke. The tubes that hold the guide rods broke, the spring popped out and the pump would not operate properly. So i bought a brand new AC Delco pump with the fuel level sensor from Rock Auto.

That one^^^. Well on the brand new pump those same exact tubes that held the guide rods were already cracked all the way up to the base. You could see guide rods through it and could see how the plastic just separated, like the rods were too big to fit in them. So that pump would have also prematurely failed if I had not noticed it before installation. So I sent it back and went with this one.

The last one they had in stock. Cost $384 without the fuel level sensor. Spectra Premium is a small private business based out of Canada. Fingers crossed that this fuel pump is of higher quality than the AC Delco pump. I will update once the pump gets here.
Also, I did not have the foresight to take a picture of the wires before I pulled the fuel level sender out of my old pump. It has 2 purple wires and I'm not sure which on goes into which side. Anyone have any advice? Hopefully the pump's instructions itself will explain this but it may not.
Okay, you're not saying the fuel pump itself failed, but rather the pump housing assembly.
You honestly could probably just grab one out of a Cobalt in a junk yard and swap the actual fuel pump itself.

Yep...Rip, put so much money into to just for this **** to happen. Hit in the rear while the rear was jacked up on stands. I doubt insurance is going to give me much for it. Everything behind the fans is undamaged in the engine bay. So I'm thinking parting it out will be my best option.
