Weird squealing sound from SC
Weird squealing sound from SC
I have this weird squealing sound that is coming from around the belt area. It partially sounds like the belt is rubbing against something metal very hard, or that possibly there is something metal-on-metal rubbing softly (but constantly). It happens only at WOT/under boost, and starts at about 3000rpm and doesn't stop unless I do. The sound will not show up if I keep out of boost, even up to redline.
Now, silly as it may be, I will attempt to type the sound. Bear with me:
Vroooooo--Ss----SSs---SSS-SSSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
I can't effectively troubleshoot the problem because no one knows how to hit the gas pedal and, of course, I can't just do it myself because there is no throttle cable under the hood.
Anyone had that problem? I searched a bit, but did not find it. It's kind of wierd.
Oh. I have replaced the SC already. It's still making the same sound. (I had a spare from my rebuild.)
I also replaced my tensioner pulley.
The only thing I can see that t might be is that my belt may be sitting too close to the engine mount and rubbing against it.
A friend said that it might be a stretched belt causing belt slippage, but we installed the belts on his and my car, my belt was equally as much of a PITA to install as his...if not more so. If the belt was indeed stretched, would it not have been easier, even slightly, to install?

One step closer to fixing this problem.
I know what it is.
When I remove the lower hose to the boost bypass valve and plug the resulting hole, the sound goes away. so the sound is coming from the boost bypass valve vacuum controller thingy. the next question is, why?
The blower I replaced had a boost bypass valve on it, so it has already been replaced. it's not the valve, specifically. not sure wht it might be though. maybe the gasket? iono. but I'm happy that nothing is actually scraping.
