Well when I had my tip welded to my muffler It had some weld splatter on the front of the muffler. Now those areas are causing rust spots and looks pretty cheap/ugly in my opinion. Has anyone had this happen to them and tried to remove said spots? and if you did how did you do it? I heard steel wool maybe or some fine grit sand paper? Wouldn't this scratch the muffler though? just looking for some input! heres a an example pic.

 

A good rubbing compound may work... hell even steel wool.

Personally, id just polish it and make it shine. Usually 3000 grit and some good metal polish will work.

Maybe remove the rust spots and paint it?

 

use one of those red/green scrubbing pads, then some mother's mag polish, it'll look better than new.

 

see I did that ^ and it did look good but the next time it rained the rust formed again on the trouble spots.

 

i imagine whatever protective coating was on it was destroyed by the heat from the welding, you'll just have to keep up on the polish i guess. maybe find some high heat clear coat?

 

Paint it flat black.. call it a day..
