If posts in the lounge and dungeon aren't going to be counted then why count posts at all? If there was a games section and every other post was by the same person and it didn't have anymore than 2 words in each one then I could see not counting them in that situation.

most sites use rep as a more knowledgable tool, not posts. but some sites, including our own, used it as a popularity contest. which is the main reason why it is no longer. posts mean absolutely nothing. I'd look at the join date before i would someone's posts if i needed some help.

Iv been on this site for almost 2 years, and there is maybe a select few days where i havnt logged on. I dont know a whole lot i admit, but there are quite a few people with more posts then i have, that i've helped out. what does that tell you?

As you might remember, the rep became a disaster!

i'm glad rep is gone, but sort of a ranking system by how long we've been on the site... is that such a bad idea?

can't you just look at the join date? or do you mean something that ranks the amount of time you actually spend on the site?

something that rates the amount of time you have been on the site, and maybe incorporates ur tech posts into it?!? there has to be some legit way, if you take a look at socalevo.net- they have a ranking system that goes by posts AND time spent on the site i believe. i can look at how many days hours minutes i have spent on the site.

I dont care either way.

My only thing is I kinda almost wanna say yes b/c of the ***** threads. When n00bs come on, they'll probally look at people's post count as = how much knowledge that person has, which isn't always true. I still have under 3,000 posts, but 95% of my threads are giving advice, insight, helps or opinons about car related topics. Sure, I have a few off topic threads, but not many. Then you have people with 15,000 posts, and 14,900 of those posts were done in ***** threads, and very little was even said about Cobalts at all. But the n00b will think "hmm, this guy has 15,000 posts, so he's very active on here and probably is very knowledgeable on modifying Cobalts and stuff".

But like I said, keep them....lose them....its all the same to me.

There is no real accurate way to determine how knowledgable a memeber is unless we are scored based on the answers given in the tech section!!! That would be a PITA!

BTW apparently my Premium Membership expired!
No warning either!

Just because I have alot of posts, even if they are in "*****" threads doesnt mean I don't read the site, learn, and share when I can. But yes, most people that are new to forums would probably assume that if a member has a high post count they know alot.

well, if you want to fully get rid of the noob thing then you must do away with join date and member number as well...

red would have a totaly of 200 posts if you took away lounge/dungeon...and i would have maybe 1000

i really dont think it matters, and the dude brought up a good point about buying/selling...alot of "trust" is based on how many posts a indivudal has.

Well, that is kind of a silly "scale" to use, a more effective method would be to get pictures of the items, use paypal, and only sell to verified paypal users

yeah thats true, but honestly who do you feel more safe buying a item from at first look..user with 3 posts (that all consist in the one for sale thread) or a premium member with 6000 posts?

well they have to look at something to base how reputable a member is. i don't think post counts should disapear. i think they just shouldn't count posts in the lounge/dungeon.

we need a post count of some sort, mainly for the selling section, i dont trust noobs, but those with a higher post count are less likely to just up and leave, therefor making my money safer....even when it comes to ***** posting...those that ***** here are less likely to run off. 99.99999% of noobs should be shown to be one as they never post in the right sec, never use the search button, and such....in this case it makes it good to label them so we know....and if you have a high post count and are guilty...then no mercy bashing shall ensue...

that is why we have the user ranking system that appears under the username:

then this is a mute point...y just remove it from there....i say leave it there....orrrrr put two, one of lounge/ dungeon posts, and one of other posts...two post counts.....that way we know if they have been around, but we can get an idea of if they are actually usefull or not
