+1

I hate using Rod as the example, but look at his situation.

to my understanding, he's getting getting the engine rebuilt with stronger pistons. That's all I know (doesn't mean that's all he's doing either).

Apparently they used your tune as the majority of it. I don't know what % of it was yours though, but I don't think the tune was all to blame.

We dynod the crap out of that car on a load dyno and it never detonated on the dyno, neither before I made changes to the tune or even after.

If you go back and read, the kid was racing the car ALL night long. Did he even have a wideband installed to see how the car was running?

He said he was going on the highway racing people back to back a NUMBER of times... so, basically long ass WOT pulls. That's so ******* bad for the car.

I think he did 7-8 races that night to top of 4th (~150mph IIRC)

We had the car on the dyno two weeks before the mishap, and the AFRs were fine. I think they were in low 11's. And it didn't knock on the dyno, and it had decent IAT2 temps too.

I think he had an interceptor installed, but no WB or EGT. Not like you are going to be racing to top of 4th and take a second to say "Oh man look at those EGTs"

Exactly!

*cough*Blown-4-Banger*cough*

And his tune had zero knock as well. A perfect tune won't stop heat from melting your pistons, period.

A good tune just buys you time, IMO... if you romp on the car like that it's bound to blow. That's some incredible stress for the motor.

If I was racing to the top of 4th and saw my EGT's, i'd say "OH ****!" and let off the damn throttle. That's just me though...

Another reason why not to roll race to insane speeds like that and to just take it to the damn track. How many LSJ's do you see blowing up at the track, vs. blowing up on the street? Exactly my point. Second to none.

just because the afr was fine on the dyno does not mean it is fine on the street. if the maf cal is not dead set over a period of time it will change wot afr.
