I know!
And still no has discussed the matter at hand that his XM reciever could have distributed waves that resonated against the vibration of the balance shafts and caused his exhaust cam gear to slip a tooth and then closed his exhaust valves too early and kept extremely hot exhaust gases inside the combustion chamber and eventually detonated against his pistons thin top ring land.
This is an issue that must be addressed! It's a conspiracy I tell ya!

I'm not knocking you down psychosteve at all and I think this engine blew do to egt's but looking at the tune I see a couple of safety features that the other shop had turned off that you could've turned on. They might have saved the engine, they might not. One thing I do know is that shop that tuned the car has alot to learn about lsj tunes and I'm a little disapointed in you psycho for not picking up on the issues. This car could have used a complete re-write on the tune.

54k on the odo
I'm guessing a piston, there was a huge plume of white smoke and it sounded like a wrx.
It blew when i was playing with this other black cobalt I let him gun it in 3rd like 4 lengths ahead, just see if how much of a reel in Id do. In 4th the RPMs wouldnt climb when it started to get around 5k, then started to fall, then there was a blinking cel...
272 whp @ 6100, 254 wtq, psycotuned, Harrop 1320 80mm pulley, 60 lbs injectors, G85 w/ sunroof & xm, injen intake, gmpp cat, gmpp header, dual pass end plate, cx racing h/e, exedy stage 3 clutch/flywheel, ttr motor mount, ttr trans mount, drilled slotted rotors front and back
how much you think thats worth with and without the blown motor

We took step after step to make sure the car was running properly prior to messing with it. In fact I even told Derrek that I was not going to touch his car since he said it was running fine, and I had the shop packing up the equipment. But when they came back from the hard drive he decided to go ahead and get a retune. As you can see I made a few changes, not many.
EGT's most likely caused the misfiring as well by detonating the fuel outside of schedule. I'm not sure if Derrek blew the motor on one pull, or if he had been doing multiple races that night. My guess is that it didn't blow on it's first rodeo that night. People who drive F/I cars need to learn to be more responsible than most drivers, because N/A cylinders dont heat up anywhere near as fast as F/I cars. You may be able to whoop your buddies ass in his GT once or twice safely but not back to back to back.
Look at Cameron's car (Blown4banger) he had a perfectly running car, I know it first hand. But he decided to test the limits on his race against that 298whp SRT-4. He was whooping that SRT-4s ass time and time again, then race #4 up to ~150mph took the motor with it. I'm sure if Derrek watches Camerons video of that race it will look exactly like what happened to him. Flash, Flash, Flash, Flash BANG!
On a side note: I found it interesting that the shops tune used the exact fuel tables that I used years ago on my yellow cobalt. Not sure if that was coincidence, or if there is really just that much piracy out there.

2 runs against the 291hp cobalt t/c back to back pretty much
long time to cool off (30 min)
then 2 run against modded evo 9 back to back
long time to cool off (1 hr)
2 runs against a stock 350z from digs back to back
cool off
and one chase that lead to distaster

When the rebuild is complete i mean should i just fly in steve or wait for raven just to re-write from the tune ground up , thats the problem. Or get a tune from the shop or just use wickedss base tvs tune, dont dog it wait for another dyno day with steve or raven to show which could possibly be months.
If you buy a plane ticket in advance you can get them really cheap so in theory you could fly in the tuner of your choice. That how I did the dyno day I used my frequent flyer miles for the hotel and flight but you probably would not even need a hotel just fly them in for the day.
