Soo I'm going to be installing my header and downpipe a little later...

Should I just leave it bare mild steel (it's kinda oily now), or should I attempt to paint it with some high temp 1500F paint that I bought? I know the paint will likely burn off but will it provide more protection than the bare metal? The downpipe was already painted by Clear Image, I might throw another coat on it before install. Please advise!

Unless you get it ceramic coated, or Jet Hot or something similar, it won't last. Don't worry about it really, unless you want to spend the money and have it coated right, which will make it last forever, otherwise save the money and enjoy it, it will still work just about the same.

Hi-temp paint is better than nothing but I can almost guarantee it will start cracking within 20 minutes. We used a hi-temp ceramic paint, drove the customers car to the dyno, (roughly 20 minutes), and it was already cracked and flaking by the time we got there.

We paint the down-pipes where we weld to match the aluminized coating.

GP has been over but you are welcome to order. Our price is still a great value for the quality we offer. Our workmanship is pretty much un-matched in the industry.

EDIT
As this GP come to a close, I realized we had built too many 1 5/8" headers. First come first serve at the best pricing offered on page 1.

We have 3 available.
Thanks.

Actually the hi-temp paint is working out great so far... I used DEI hi-temp paint used for painting over header wraps from Advance Auto, and it still looks like new. that is with about 300+ miles on the car. After I installed the header/dp I went on a couple mini roadtrips. Good news is, I averaged about 6+ miles per gallon increase over before..!

Before painting the headers I washed them down really good with brake parts cleaner to remove all of the grease. Supposedly proper cleaning makes the paint stick much better. After install I let the car idle for about 15 mins to let the paint cure and bake on. So far so good...

Hmmmmmmmmm. Well my buddy has got a lil shop with a oven in it so maybe I will bake mine on properly. I really can't wait to get this installed and hopefully notice the power gains. Idk what to expect because I have never put on a aftermarket header before. Im sure I won't be disappointed!

would you guys recommend keeping the stock heat shield on over the header or taking it off?

There probably won't be any mounts for it, I believe it hooks to the stock manifold. It might not fit either.

And not to be rude or a dick mike. But I am a lil iffy on having you weld **** lol don't take me wrong dude I just haven't seen you do it before. BUT I do trust you and have faith. Oh also my front grills paint cracked but it looks sweet. Gives it that snake skin look lol. I wanna redo the front one black tho

Nothing to weld to install our header and down-pipe UNLESS you guys ordered the slip-fit factory flange for up-grade to 3" later. Then just a couple small welds to hold the slip fit from moving.

Also, no way to mount the heat shiled. Header and stock manifold are not even similar in design.

Baking the paint on may help, glad yours is holding up thus far.

Have a good night everyone. I'm gone.

Hmm, well I got the slip fit. But I also don't have stock downpipe. I've got a custom 2.5 catless dp so how will that affect the install of your downpipe to my stock exhaust? Cuz I think the custom dp is a lil longer so im not too sure how it'll go on the exhaust cuz its just welded to the exhaust pipe. Idt there is a flange? Or am I missing any info?

Your down-pipe was built EXACTLY as you ordered it. If you ordered it to bolt to a factory 2-bolt flange, then the 2-bolt flange is there. However, I think you had requested a universal style connection so you could have a custom exhaust made. I don't have your order available to confirm. But again, what you ordered is exactly what we built. You'll have it soon enough.

So i just got mine today. why would there be no 02 bung in the downpipe? and why would the slip on reducer for a 2.5'' exhaust, for later to upgrade to a 3'' exhaust not be a SLIP. I would have to weld it on and then cut it off when i go to a 3'' exhaust.....????

It should slip over, not be the same size, as the DP. You can clamp or tack weld it on, then just remove it when you are ready without damaging the DP.
