That's happened to me big time after my retainer bolt fell out, the insert was banging around inside the strut body. Check that both bolts are on there and on TIGHT, they'll make noise even if they're just loose (I know lol)
Retainer bolt? had no idea what this is...
Alldata'ed it.... still nothing... but since they are aftermarket was not expecting anything...
pics of what you are talking about? or if no pics... location and what the look like?

well looks like im a little confused. your saying to adjust them a quarter turn from full soft in the rear? the adjustment says i have 5 half turns of the shock or 2.5 turns. so should i go one half? i have them ready to install and i set them at 1 full turn (say i guess 40% of full range) is this off? sound like it would be. i'd love to just do this once!

You have about 2 full turns. All you need is about 1/4 of a turn off full soft. Maybe 1/2. Any more and the car will start jacking down since the springs aren't strong enough. It feels awful if it's setup with too much rebound.
i can imagine.i set them full soft last night while i was messing around in the garage. the things wouldnt rebound. ill bring them in tonight them. just wanted to be sure im doing it right.
Thanks for your help and very quick response!
hoping to maybe take it to a trackday just for fun soon.

hey wang, quick Q. i bought mine used, adn the previous owner didnt use any thread locker on the cartridge bolts. looking at mine, the hex is fairly well beaten, do you happen to now the thread pitch/dia. and bolt length? i wan to replace these and do it right. but i dont have a 2nd vehicle right now so i cant take these apart and then go to the store.

I think they're grade 10.9, hence the non-rust proof bolt, and the fact that they require loctite. High grade bolts don't stretch much, so they are more prone to coming loose from vibration.
Wangspeed was your 1/4 turn suggestion for running pedders? IIRC I've seen that you run the YYZ now. I'm putting mine on today or tomorrow and i have them at 3/8 of a turn from full soft with Pedders and a PRS hardcore bar.

That's perfectly reasonable, but yes, I did run 1/4 off full soft with the Pedders, but went up as I added the XXX and then the YYZ. I presume you're talking about the rears.
