Rockauto Dynamic Friction Brakes
Rockauto Dynamic Friction Brakes
Ok, so I'm looking at brakes on Rockauto planning to do these in the next couple months and since it takes a while to get responses here I figure I would post early.
2010 SS Brembos (obviously)
So I'm looking at the Dynamic friction track/street pads and centric rotors. I know a lot of corvette guys swear by the centrics so I'm pretty settled with those, but the dynamic friction pads have me curious. Front and rear semi metallic track pads for $70 is a darn good deal, and I'm thinking about trying them out unless someone has any experience with them to tell me otherwise.
Originally I was going to go for the EBC bluestuff with centric rotors, but looking at the price difference (literally saving $300) It's hard to justify the EBCs unless the dynamic frictions are just awful.

Semi-metallic do wear down quicker than ceramic, but they shouldn't be "bad" as there are brake pad standards. Just make sure to thoroughly clean the rotors with brake cleaner before putting everything together for best results.
So just in case there is anyone else interested in these brakes, I'm going to put my short review of the product here.
DFC Active Performance Pads for Cobalt SS LNF with Brembo Brakes and self adjusting parking brake.
My previous pads were the PowerStop drilled and slotted with Ceramic pads. Those had very low dust, though I cannot comment on sound as they were bedded improperly and howled like a coyote until they were cooking hot. The stopping power for them was surprisingly good for what they were.
Since moving to the DFC Active Performance pads, I have noticed a significant increase in bite. I previously owned a Corvette C5 FRC with Hawk HPS pads and I would consider these an improvement over those in stopping power. Initial bite is softer than I would like for a performance pad but it is nice for daily driving, and still enough bite for aggressive driving. Pedal feel is quite nice (I did put in Bosch 5.1 fluid prior to the install, and the pads helped) and it seems like a very linear bite all the way to full brake. Stopping is now almost as much fun as hitting the gas, as my passengers faces will distort and makes for a good practical joke.
SN: Had a buddy come into town that used to be an avid track day enthusiast with liter bikes. While taking him for a spirited drive, he asked me to just hit a deer if I were to see one rather than run off the road. I responded with "I won't have to do that when I can just do this!" and proceeded to slam the brakes. As his body lunged forward, engaging the seatbelt lock, he let out an involuntary groan until we stopped. Once stopped, he laughed and stated that the car was the silliest thing he had ever been in.
I never checked the actual braking performance prior to new pads and rotors, but I can say for certain that it is significantly improved over ceramics.
I will say the noise is quite improved over the howl I used to deal with, but there is more noise than I have ever been used to. This is mostly when the brakes are cold, and it is only a slight squeak. It isn't a "That guy 2 cars over needs to replace his brakes" kind of squeal, but a subtle reminder that the rotors and pads are still cold.
Initial bite: mildly aggressive
Full bite: moderately aggressive
Pedal feel: linear
Noise: little
Dust: a pretty good amount
Price: <$100 for the front and rear set, not counting the rotors
Overall I would recommend these pads as an entry level option for someone looking to have a more aggressive brake but not spend $500+ on a full set. I will move to EBC pads next, simply because I want to do track days, and would like to peel my face off in the corners.
