2.4 ecm swap?
Don't turn on your flamethrowers, I know 'swap' isn't as simple as it sounds, but could someone who knows tuning better than I do tell me if this idea is plausible.
Could one swap a 2.4 automatic ecm into a 2.2 auto? Of course it would need to be tweaked to make it work on the 2.2 motor (no VVT etc), but in principle could this work? Would you need to swap the wiring harness as well? Since they are essentially the same car aside from engine management I'd imagine this would be easier than making an LSJ ecm work in a 2.2. The goal of this is to have a 2.2 that I could tune with HPTuners. (Yes I know about AEM FIC, standalone, etc... I have my reasons for wanting to use HPT I just want to know if this could work.)

Just adding some more thoughts to my above post.
I wonder if it'd be easier to use an E37 ecm from the ss/sc rather than the E67 from the 2.4? The issue with the E37 would be that the s/c's never had automatic transmissions, my car is an automatic so IDK how I could get the ss/sc ecm to work with an automatic. With the E67 from the 2.2, the issue is not with the transmission, the issue is disabling the VVT. I'd imagine some sensors would have to be bypassed.
Are the connectors for the E37, E67, and E16a physically the same? I'm not asking if it'll work out of the box but will the 3 ecm's physically interchange with one another?
Does anyone have good pictures of any of the three ecm's?
Here is an E67 picture I found online.
Here is a picture of the GM Stage 3 ecm for the ss/sc
Connectors look the same to me, I'd imagine the 2.2 is the same, but I'd really love a picture. Otherwise I'll just pull mine out tomorow and take pics.

I agree 100%. If I was going to go turbo or anything like that I'd just get an aem fic, but I'm curious to see if I can make a swap work no matter the difficulty.

ur better off doing a engine swap bro...cheaper in the long run..theres so many sensors that WILL NOT let the engine run correctly that u would have to switch over..might as well take the whole damn engine

Which sensors? I'm not trying to be an ass, I want to learn as much about this as I can.

The 2.2 and 2.4 use the same ECM (part number wise). The difference is in the programming. The programming is done using the VIN of your car. I have read of others trying to use a salvaged 2.2 ECM on another 2.2 but it wouldn't work without a complete reflash -- even after reflashing they had problems because there was residual information that kept causing problems. The 2.0 uses a different PCM then the 2.2/2.4 ECM.
Not a good idea to try this without a knowledgable technician or serious tuner.
