PCM Swap?

I was just wondering if it would be possible to swap out the computer on '05-'06 2.2s for the computer in the '07+ 2.2 if and when tuning is available for it from HPTuners.

I know that the GM stage 3 comes with a new computer for the SS/SC, so would it be possible for a computer switch in the 2.2?

If not possible, why not?

Thanks

Not if they changed the bitrate of the PCM. I know on the '07 SS they upped the bitrate to 32-bit, so it is notc ompatable with '05-'06

Wrong! You can put one douchebags PCM into another douchebags car and they will work. The specific stuff you were talking about are contained in the BCM not the PCM. Though after swapping the PCMs you will need to perform a case relearn with the proper tools. But he car should fire right up.

a pcm is made up of 3 parts

ram-random accous memory

Rom-read only memory

and the prom -proggramable read only memory

the only thing that can be changed it the prom everything else is perminit (sp)

so incase i guess you could you would have to have the prom relearned

The 05's and 06's don't and likely will not have any tuning support from HPT. I believe that HPT plans to support the '07+.

Good point.

If the bitrate is not the same then you will see some issues. It shouldn't work IF the rates are different between the years like I think they are.

06 and down are 16bit ecm's the 07+ all run the 32bit.

cant switch across model lines unless you feel like re-writing your entire ECM - OS

but you can switch model years 05-to-06 and 06-to-05 but 07 is on its own.

You can use a Tech2 at the dealer or HPTuners on most cars. It requires you to turnt he car on and let it idle, then initiate the Case learn program and then it will ahve you gradually floor the car until it hits redline and then it resets the crank position sensor. Since that number is stored in the ECU when you put it into a different car the position is not co-related. You do have a 1 in 360 chance of not having to do it.

unless you plan on raping an 07 car fro the wiring, radio, cluster, everything that has a wire going to it. you won't get the 07 ecm to work in an 05-06 car.

^^^The limit can be taken off by the dealer, I believe. I'm sure they will ask you why though.

The reason it is there is because the tires that came with your car are only good until 105...then they explode.
