2.4SS vs. EG Civic w/ H22 swap

Well the other night I was coming home from town, it was getting pretty late and I was just crusing along enjoying the cool night weather. Well, I see some Halo's come up in my rear view mirror, and it passes me. Its a EG model (92-95) Civic coupe, dark blue, bodykit (actually painted!!!), gunmetal wheels, vented CF hood, big ass tach......the usual. It passes me and does nothing, so I think nothing of it. Well, it gets in front of me, and later ends up going really slow, so I proceed to pass it. As I start passing it, he starts revving up at me and looking over at me, so I think "ahh, screw it, I NEVER race on highways usually, its a nice night, so **** it lets go". Well, he downshifts before im really even ready, and proceeds to pull away.....but even he knew it was somewhat unfair of a start, so he slows up and I get next to him again. He revs up again and we both nod, engage the clutch, look over at each other, nod again, and throw it down into 3rd. Well.....I lost. He didn't pull on me that badly, but he def beat me fair and square, no doubt about it. Granted, my car needs tuning pretty badly and is running kinda rough.....but hey.....thats all my own fault, so fair is fair. Well, later down the road we pull up at a light next to each other and we both have own windows down. I ask him what kinda engine he's got (no one with EG/EK Civics keep the weak little D15/D16 SOHC engines, lol). He says "just an H22", and then says "man, that things runs pretty......supercharged right?" I proceed to telling him that it isn't in fact supercharged, rather its a 2.4SS non-supercharged, but of course, the light turns green and cuts my convo off, so he pulls away thinking he beat a supercharged Cobalt. Owell, let him have his pride. All in all, I think its kinda funny that a ricey little bodykitted, big tach'd, fire extinguisher on the a-pillar (lol) Civic beat me, but hey, a loss is a loss. When you weigh it out, it seems correct though. H22's have 200hp stock vs. my 173hp stock, and EG Civic coupes only weight like 2,400lbs or so, vs. my 2,900-3,000lb beast. And he had full bolt ons im sure, as I heard his intake when he pulled away from the light, and the loud exhaust was obvious from the moment I saw it (loud to the point that im sure it had a header of some sort too). Just goes to show that even the "tacky little rice burners", extravagent bodykits and all........can teach other more respected cars a lesson every now and then.

However, I will say, if I had had my injector swap and tuning, who will hopefully happen soon once I find someone who can tune it (damn '07 ECM), I think it would've either been dead even, or maybe I might have even won.

Guy's here in Md with the h22 swap in their hatches are putting down high 13's on the track... with full interiors probably low 14's.

I'm honestly going to say, being a honda owner, that he did not know how to drive. This is a pretty common occurence with Honda's espicially if he just swapped the motor in recently. going from a d15 to an h22 is a huge difference and he probably shifted too early to take advantage of Honda's high revving motors.

Still though, good job man, respect from the Honda community to you !!

(gimme an h22 in my coupe and run me, lesse what happens than hehehehehehe)

later model prelude.

actually, from what i've seen, that could be a pretty fair race... assuming it was a stock H22 engine, and it was a well done swap, it should be a pretty quick little car, but it would have the same issues the 2.4 SS would, namely that the chassis is still designed for a weaker engine, wheel hop and less than ideal gearing.

well this was from a roll, so obviously there wasn't wheel hop. And it wasn't 100% stock either. A full exhaust was evident by sight and sound, and I later heard his intake at the next stop light when we parted on our seperate ways.

More respected????

Who is the ricer?
uh, actually, I was making fun of myself moreso than anything. I was pointing out the fact that the stereotypical "ricer" car.......the cars w/ big bodykits, clear tailights, flashy wheels....etc etc.....handed my a$$ to me. And I don't even understand why you highligted the last paragraph of my post. I was stating simply that once my car dosen't run like crap and have CEL's out the butt, and once its properly tuned, that I believe I may have had the upper hand. Just a simple guess based off how much he pulled on me, and how much better I may have done if my car ran correctly.

And yes, on the street, a Cobalt SS is typically more respected from a general standpoint. More people tend to think a Cobalt SS (and much more so an SS/SC) is fast and "cool" than an old Civic with a big bodykit and the norm. Im not trying to one up my car, im just saying...... I mean, take an old Ford Festiva and hook it up to the point that its just as good as say......a nice mildly hooked up RSX.......even if the Festiva was made to be just as fast, nimble, etc etc.......the RSX would still get more respect from a general standpoint. Now serious gearheads who actually took the time to seeing what went into the Festiva to make it perform like an RSX would likely hand the respect to the Festiva. But most people don't second guess a car. They look at it, make their opinion on it, don't as questions, and go on with their lives. THATS the point I was trying to make.

Maybe you should read posts better before you accuse someone about "talking ****" about some other car. Go to the post that talks about a guy racing a GTO in the war stories section and you'll find a reply by me where I stood up for "ricey" Hondas. Alot of close friends used to own such cars, and while they might have had a serious "project car" look to them, I spoke of what they were capable off and how looks can be decieving.

ughhh I smoke rocks... you really don't pay attention... he was giving respect to the fact that someone did the car well and it beat him... even though most hondas are usually rice.. i didn't read his post as calling that honda rice at all, 8/10 the honda would be rice and would've have had all the engine work to support everything it showed on the outside...

I'm pretty sure thats all he was going for.. that being said H22's are beasts

I got pulled by a EG Hatch with a built K20 in it. A swapped civic can be quick as hell when done right.

THANK YOU!!! FINALLY, SOMEONE PAID ATTENTION!!! God how many times do I have to explain this!?! Its like the post from hell that no one gets, lol! I wasn't calling it "rice" I was saying MOST people, not myself, but most others would call this car a "rice burner". The point I was trying to portray was that you should never judge a book by its cover.....b/c I never called the car "rice" or w/e, but it was hooked up in the stereotypical "ricer" fashion with a big bodykit and such. The "ricer" stereotype is a Civic flaunting a fancy bodykit/hood, fancy wheels, altezza tailights.......but no power to back up its looks. That is why I was basically giving this car props for beating that stereotype with a stick, as it had everything the stereotypical "ricer" Honda had..........ANNNND power/speed to back it up. I even explained how my friends used to have such cars, and how I stuck up for them, so why would I hate on a car that I CLEARLY STATED beat me. Jeez, READ FOR GODS SAKE.

And as for tuning, I wouldn't be using "ifs" and "whens" if someone in my area had the know how to tune an '07 2.4SS. I've been turned down by two places either b/c they didn't wanna mess with the LE5 motor as they hadn't tuned it before, and by another b/c's its an '07 and they "didn't think"......not even know for sure......whether or not they could log the '07 into HP Tuners, even with the beta fix. And on top of that, tunings not cheap, and im not Mr. Money here. And I know you were being sarchastic with the whole immature G35/Z06 schpeel, but I never made some wild assumption. I just stated that if my car had been running correctly and had a nice tune, I thought I would have done better. I didn't say "yeah man, I would smoked its ass and made it look stupid". I simply stated that I thought my car would have been more even with it, or maybe.....read.....MAYBE have beaten it.

I'm not explaining this post anymore, if you wanna flame me for sticking up for stereotyped Hondas that you for some reason think im flaming myself.....well, I first ask you to READ the post carefully, then make your accusations.

Never again am I posting a "kill story". For me to ever post another kill story, the car im racing would have to like explode and turn into Zebras made of cotton candy or something. Then and only then would I be willing to go through all this mess again, lol. And im sure someone would accuse me for flaming zebras and cotton candy then.......

Its true, you actually said the car seemed nice, and people jumped on you. If i posted most of my races people would be all on my ****, so I just keep my mouth shut. If i told people that I beat a 240sx with a built Ka24, turboed, on 10 psi, they wouldn't believe me. I don't care, I did it 3 times in a row, he went home and turned the boost up to 15psi and the next day only pulled about 1/2 to 1 car on me. This is just a bad forum to post war stories on. People get way to happy to jump on the members.
