We had a Silverado 3500 with the 8.1 at work a few years ago and you could beat most cars up to around 40 or so even with 2,500lbs in the bed.

Some of those tuned diesels can surprise pretty much anything on the road from a dig. I saw one beat a C5 Vette in the 1/4 at Milan. Both ran mid 12's.

Theres a couple of regular cab late model Chevys running 11s at the local track. They have tuned 6.0 Vortecs with bolt ons and big drag radials. Im not sure if they have superchargers.

Well I have a 6.5 detroit turbo diesel GMC suburban and would like a 5 minute flat in the 1/4 haha... It's a 1995... It's not even direct injection (indirect injection) but it gets about the same fuel mileage as my car. At 24 mpg that's not bad for a 5,000lbs 9 passenger suv with 4wd. By the way... Mine is about as fast as a 6.5 goes.

Even though it isn't "fast", the 6.5 is a great engine as long as you know how to take care of it. my dad bought it brand new off the lot 1500 6.5 turbo 4wd silverado. 339K miles later, she is still running strong. I have a 4" straight pipe and replaced the factory vacuum operated wastegate setup with a manual one so I am now running about 12psi spikes to 16 occasionally, the truck is still peppy and can blow the tires off pretty good if you want; But with the higher compression, non intercooled, and the injection setup, the 6.5 isnt known for its 1/4 times. Ya, 24mpg aint bad on that engine; I get between 16-20 depending on how I drive and where I drive.

What pisses me off is the 6.5 cant hold its own to what my dad picked up last year; 04 6.0 powerstroke....

Haha the 6.5 won't hold its own against a 454 big block in the same truck... I have a 2.5 inch crossover, 3 inch down and 4 inch straight pipe. I have an ATT sitting in my condo waiting to go on and a meth injection next to it. I'm waiting for another free weekend.

My next truck is a 24 valve cummins swap in my 95 suburban. It would be sweet to see a 95 suburban spin all 4 tires with 9 people in it.

all my buddies have trucks.. Im kinda the reject of the group with the only car, so I have a soft spot for big fast trucks. I do want one, but cant afford what the gas (or diesel) would cost to run to school all the time..

All you gotta do is wait for that 6.0 to pop the head gaskets, then you've got him beat. It was almost a guaranteed thing with those motors....unless you did the EGR delete kit, then they weren't to bad of a motor

Same with the GM 6.5, guys ask too much from their diesels without the proper things done to it. Over the summer, we did the egr delete and replaced the oil cooler on the 6.0. Personally I like the 6.0, even though it is considered "junk" to other people, just like the 6.5 GM; it all comes down to how well you take care of it.

Eventually I would love to do head studs and start doing intake, exhaust, tune on the 6.0.

yeah, and feel free to correct me if I am wrong, but I was told by someone that there were actually 2 different 6.5s that were used by GM. One they built themselves and one they paired with Detroit Diesel....and obviously the Detroit one was the one that sucked.

To the 99% of rams are slow guy, my buddy has a 2010 Ram R/T. It's pretty quick, I like it.

And to 08slatecobalt there was a 6.5 Turbo and non turbo. Both made by detroit I beleive.

No worries. The one we had at work sucked (Turbo, but to be fair I'm pretty sure that compressor wasn't even spinning anymore) so I won't correct you there .

Theres some nasty diesels where I live. I pulled up to a gold duramax at a light once and it had "nasty girl" stickered on the back. I didnt think much of it and figured it was the usual chipped/intake/exhaust diesel truck... boy was I ever wrong.. BTW: turned out to be my ex girlfriends dad

heres some vids

YouTube - Nasty Girl Drag Race Weekend
YouTube - Duramax with 1004rwhp
YouTube - Nasty Girl on the dyno!!

It was NASTY fast. He put nitrous to it and was in the low 9's. He sold it and bought a 03 termi mustang with the twin hellion kit.
