You're right, they are all rated at the same HP by mitsu. But guess what? Mitsu lies! I have heard that the MR actually has more like 320 hp

maybe 320 at the crank, the drive train in those eats power like its their job, i have seen the dyno results on the supposed 276 hp, and it turned out to be like 230 somehting...... that sucks really, however all wheel drive in the cobalt would be sick, and a hell of a lot of fun.......

Yeah you're right about the all wheel drive eating tons of power, and that's why an SS can give an Evo an excellent race. Our drivtrains are so much more efficient.

Wouldn't that put you in the same boat as an Evo? Drivetrain loss wise? So what would be the use? AWD isn't nearly as fun as FWD... Gotta love torque steer!

your crazy, awd is so much better! i love it. that's why my 2 daily driver's are fwd and rwd, cause when i go out, i take the tsi. i love the launch, awd burnouts, and sliding through a field drifing in awd. it's crazy.

A lot of people just look at the crank HP numbers and automatically think that an EVO (or any car for that matter) will beat another said car. Evos usually dyno around 230 at the wheels and weigh around 3400 pounds. So, a stock to stock race with an SS/SC would be pretty close from a roll but obviously from a dig AWD>FWD. They dynoed all 3 models (VIII, RS, MR) the same day one right after another and 3 different pulls each. Their highest dyno numbers of each were RS at 235, MR at 227 and VIII at 228.

Well you’re lucky enough to have two cars, some people can't, and in that case the Cobra isn’t a good choice. Even in moderate rain the Cobra is a bad car, so its tough to drive it everyday.

Furthermore, you have to ask yourself what’s your goal. Do you want to own a ź mile car, or a sports car; if you want a sports car than the EVO is the better choice. If you want to run the ź then get a Cobra.

While the EVO may only dyno in the upper 220 that’s more than enough to make that car go. I know some guys on this site are convinced that the SS puts down in the 220's, and trust me I’ve seen their dyno’s, but when they have been conducted in the correct gear they generally put down under 200. All of the high dynos that I've seen, have been done on dynos that always give you 20 or so more than you have, or are done in the wrong gear, or both. There might be some factory freaks out there, but most SS’s are not putting down 220, or any where near there for that matter.

The EVO does not weigh anywhere near 3,400 pounds. They are between 3, 197 and 3,285, depending on what model you purchase.

As far as a highway race goes I would imagine that the EVO would gain a car or two in most situations. Put the cars on a track and its not even close, the EVO is a far better car.

As far as aftermarket is concerned the weights are hopelessly slanted in favor of the EVO. The EVO engine has been around forever, and because the car is almost exactly the same in Japan, and Europe, there are far more tuners and companies working on this car. I feel very confident in saying that there will never be a day when the aftermarket for any Chevy let alone the SS is stronger.

I have raced a bone stock EVO 8 on a roll and I won by a small margin, I could see a SC/SS keeping up pretty good on a roll........

I SURE WOULD! I love EVO's but I think the GTO is amazing. I originally wanted that car but since I didn't have the funds for it, it turned into a dream car (I have looked at used ones for 23,000 but insurance was what was going to kill me). The interior on the EVO, is SH*T. No offence to the EVO owners on this board or any EVO owner. It's still a nice car but for the money I'd take a GTO. Yeah, the GTO is plain in styling but that makes the perfect sleeper Yeah it's a bloated cavalier with a freakin ls2 400hp v8 in it that runs low 13's all day Personaly I think it looks amazing. The interior is to die for, the head unit sux on it though and so does the trunk space. But other than that, GTO 4 ME!

Couldn't have said it any better myself. I've ridden in my friends EVO. Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful (opinion based), fast car. However it rides hard I think because of its good suspension but you can't have both a good suspension and good ride quality. The dash is so plain. I seriously like my moms 1996 Toyota Corolla dash better. The leather racing seats are nice however but the cloth ones....yuck. That car is mainly built for speed. The GTO is almost like an old persons sports car. It doesn't attract too much attention but when you want to relive your childhood and go fast, you always have that option to keep up with C5 Corvettes and smoke EVO's.

I love the 05 GTO, a friend took his to the track and ran a best of 14.3 on street tires, compared to a 05 mustang GT with slicks that did a best of 14.8.

I think a more accurate statement would be to say that if you care about anything besides the twisties and AWD (like accelleration, comfort, noise, interior quality) then you're probably gonna pick the GTO. A Cobalt SS even has a much nicer interior than the Evo. Also, people shouldn't underestimate the GTO in the twisties. It's a big car, but it's no slouch on a curve. I'd like to see a GTO and an SS race on a really curvy course. I wonder who would win?
