You can do it but you will be much more likely to crack the paint. The point of the fender roller is to gradually increase the pressure and stretch the metal/paint. Baseball bat only has one setting if you know what i mean.

Most people/shops will rent the roller or sometimes even free with a deposit which you get back when you return it. Look on craigslist and i bet you will find someone who will rent you theirs.

There is a method i found to gradually lower the car while rolling a wooden bat to gradually roll the fender, applying heat from a gun as you go. Seems legit haha

On my previous car (Acura CL-S) I used heat and a mallet lol. Came out decent imo. If you're not a perfectionist then I would try the baseball bat method. As long as u keep it heated it shouldnt crack. However the problem I ran into was a little wavy uneven look on my fenders.

Baseball bat method and phone book method both work decently, but little room for error. A fender roller works perfectly. I can't use any of those methods on my plastic car Dremel method!

LOL. I prefer to carefully cut sheet metal wth a cutoff wheel and then sand it smooth vs trying to fold it over. I have cut up a few fenders free hand but none on Cobalts.
