2010 Cobalt SS/TC Stage 1 test drive!
Sweetsandman, I think you are misunderstanding it.
I have read all the experiences on the RL and GXP forums including the other engineer over there who had it on his solstice originally.
The "learn down" is turned off, what is still in place is a protection for "turbo overspeed" thus if you try to run more boost, you will hit a wall.
However freeing up air flow will increase power, it allows that, and will maintain the same boost levels.
Where as stock if you increase airflow through exhaust/intake what have you the ecu will cut boost to compensate.
It will not allow you to simply up the boost, past the efficiency range of the turbo. Which is what they have run into. As that would blow up turbos.

Term honestly I don't know how else to explain how this ECU works to everyone saying "Learn Down is gone"...I'm at a loss...Perhaps you could assist me..I figured that posting Vince's knowledge would enlighten people...but perhaps I was wrong...Anything else you can emphasize on top of my explanations that would really hit home in explaining how this ECU operates?

3 bar MAP vs 2 Bar MAP... Since it's a canned tune and will in no way be adjusted to weather, height above sea level or anything like that...they need to make sure those people that live in weird places won't throw overboost codes or blow sensors. I don't remember exactly who it is but they are at a weird elevation and on the Trifecta tune is boosting like 24 psi or something when it normally only does 21-22...
1 gallon of C5 added to about 8 or 9 gallons of 91 will take care of the problem

any city over 3500 ft above sea level- your boost gauge may need to be adjusted by -1.9 psi or more.. food for thought.. some folks may need to check with the dealer on this..
I test drove the car tonight, check out my thread about it: https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/08-10-ss-turbocharged-general-discussion-152/test-drive-2010-cobalt-ss-gm-stage-1-a-185801/
i think that was in denver or some where in colorado - it was 24 psi for trifecta and 25/26 for hp tuner, some folks got the multi cel's for boost, multi cyl misfire and timing issues.. one guy was saying, when he got tuned then dyno the boost gauge was way off.. i remember reading last year on 08 model TC/SS that gm had to adjust the ecm in cars that where sold in cities that where over 3500ft above sea level..because of the same issues..

Cobalt Stage 1 Experience
I will be at Great Lakes Crossings from about 1:00 to 3:00 pm today, Saturday August 22nd, in front of Bass Pro. I have a red Cobalt SS and will be wearing a tan SS hat. If you can make it come on out and experience the Stage 1 kit

The desired airloads and other tables that control boost (Max airload torque and others) cannot be removed by the tune but these settings are simply raised by the stage tune. You cannot remove these controls but you can raise them higher. The GM tune will still keep those desired airloads so as you mod it will add power but not as much as if you tuned on top of the stage tune. Take BartSS's HHR for example he made 287whp 293 with the stage kit and boltons which is approx 30 whp more than a stage tune only HHR made that same day on that dyno. Once he was tuned on top of the stage tune the gains are far better.

Learn Down is gone from Stage 1! I am the one who took it out. You may be confused with the Turbo safeties that are still there like the "over boost" protection and the "turbo speed" protection.
The Desired airloads and max airload torque table are still present in the new OS.
Key word: Desired
The production cals will take action on many fronts to take you back to deisred. Stage kit will take no action to bring you back down to desired. Soooo....if you have add ons that give you more than deisred they are not learned out or down. Example a fresh air intake will give you more than desired. Production-learned down, stage kit no action taken.
Both still have the turbo protection features: over boost and turbine overspeed.

These GMPP guys have been pretty straight with us and I don't really think they're trying to pump up the product. They could easily just tell us "the learn down is gone" and leave it at that but they go on to say the turbo protection features are still there and may SEEM to MIMMICK the learn down to the uninitiated. They also wouldn't tell us our bolt ons are now actually going to work with the upgrade, if it wasn't something that will prove itself out soon, which is further proof the "learn down" will be gone. Those that have delayed their aftermarket add-ons for after the installation of the upgrade will probably see and feel the difference in peformance better than those that already have the bolt-ons installed (we will have nothing to compare it against) and I wait for their comments after all their mods are in place.
This is NOT to say that the aftermarket is wrong in what they believe. Some of them have definately advertised some big HP and torque numbers. But we in the general Cobalt SS buying public have to put our faith and trust in SOMEBODY and who better than the people that designed this upgrade from the ground up.
I am NOT flaming. Just stating my feelings and opinions like everybody else.
