Cutout a bad idea?
I've got a DMH electric cutout left over from my Trans Am and I've been thinking about putting it on the Cobalt. I know it won't help power any but I would just like it there for the extra noise. Would putting it in the catback right behind where the DP bolts up hurt anything?

it wont hurt anything. you might notice some power loss thats about it..... the stocker doesnt flow enough to benefit from a cutout imho but if your using it for noise who cares. its just like a athmospheric blow off valve on a stock turbo setup...pointless unless you want more noise.

Might want to be mindfull of ground clearance before the install. I have a y-pipe on the downpipe (pre-cat) and it's not there to make noise-only been open a few times. I realize we have a small turbo that spools quickly but I find it hard to believe I LOST power. Never dynoed so idk-my .02

when open there is less back pressure so it will make the turbo spool faster, may lose a little bit of power but shouldn't be all that noticeable. my best friend had a 3" DP and 3" QTP on his WRX (stock otherwise) and that thing was a freak

The stock turbo spools quick enough. It really is not worth the trade off. No sense hacking stuff up just for the sake of hacking stuff up, and then in addition it just hurting you. They sound sweet, I'll give you that, and I am all for pointless noisy mods, as long as they don't hurt my power though!

cutouts leak quite a bit.... atleast the electronic ones... i think theres a company that offers a lifetime warrenty with theirs and its not qtp.... dont buy the cheap ass chinese cutouts either..... we had brand new ones on one of our ls3 swap cars the guy HAD TO HAVE and they couldnt even stay shut LOL
anyways heres my cutout placement....its pefect. (keep in mind this is on a big turbo setup) worked on both my efr and my 5557 setups and not an inch of ground clearence loss

The gains werent worth it imho. The spool wasent all that much faster either especially with the efr which spools fast already. You notice it a lot more on real large frame turbos. It just made for a cool noise maker lol. I love the sound of the turbo wistling but in all honesry it was closed and i eventually took it off. Ill be selling off my old setup soon. Staying stock turbo this time around.
