Whats your oil?
^ I will be using mobil 1 5w-30 the life of the car. Sticking with the same oil is just one thing i'm particular about if it's in my control. so whatever comes from the factory is the only thing going in there.
AC Delco is what I normally get, but sometimes I have to get another brand because they dont always have the Delcos in stock.
i am well aware of that. and honestly it's just my preference.
I was once told by an engineer to stick by one oil and use it the life of the car. that just kind of stuck with me, so my car will have nothing else in it other than Mobil 1

Now I am going by the oil life monitor. At 1% I'm going to change it. Anyone that tells you otherwise and uses Mobil 1 is wrong. GM spends tons of money and time creating an algorithm to tell you when to change your oil based on a number of driving habits. Trust them and you will be fine and save money.
The first time I changed at ~2,600 because there was a bulletin out the oil drain plugs and when GM checked it out they gave you a free oil change...figured it wouldn't hurt to do it a bit early...

I know but I just cannot wrap my head around 8-12K miles or so between oil changes. I have always done it at 3-4k miles and I have always changed my own oil. (I dont trust others much with my car). I know it is supposed to be just fine to wait that long but I dont know.
Most people will be well over 12,000 miles when their warranty expires, so GM is really backing up their claim that the oil life monitors work...
No matter how long the oil can last, the filter only last on average 3000-5000 miles. and once the filter is clogged the oil pump goes into bypass mode anyway so it is not even getting cleaned anymore which is why your oil is going to be extremly black at a 10000 mile oil change. Also they warrenty the engine for 100000 miles, so what happens after 100000 miles say 125000 and all your **** is clogged up from all the dirt build up over the years. Change your oil 3000-5000 no matter what people tell you, or change the filter every 3000 and add the remander of oil to fill it up then you never really have to change it.

IDK my filter is dirty when I change my oil, and I change it at 3000 to.
