Where is the GM stage kit?
God forbid should something MAJOR happen with the internals of the engine, etc. For me, I'd rather get the GM kit as it's more conservative and has longevity (if it's true that it removes the learn down feature then I'd add bolt ons as well (down pipe, exhaust, ic piping, boost tubing, etc. so you'll see over 300whp and keep your warranty).
We just don't know about the longevity of the Trifecta tunes. I know they're conservative in their nature too, but I've been seeing some really whacked out A/F ratios which will definitely kill your engine!
But,
We all know how the saying goes though: You have to PAY to PLAY. Either way you pay, with one way you can PAY to PLAY and not worry about frying up your internals.
I want the Trifecta tune just as much as the next Joe does, but something about it is keeping me from purchasing it (mainly long term reliability). At least with this GM upgrade you know you have a reliable car. Once the warranty runs out do whatever the hell you'd like to it! That's my plan!
GM gave the Upgrade less power than aftermarket tunes for a reason, to keep things running as safely as possible. If you need to squeeze out every pony from your turbo then grab an aftermarket tune and be done with it. If you don't mind sacrificing some power gains on an already quick car and want your warranty, then grab the GM Upgrade.
It shouldn't be such a hard decision. Either you want a peppy tune with piece of mind, or a hardcore tune with a little risk.

I wish they'd unluck some of that power in 1st and 2nd gear, but somehow, I doubt they will do that. Thoughts?
Especially since the person to whom you are replying is based in Toronto (like me), we can expect to pay nearly $1,500 when it's all said and done for that tune (that's my guess) in canadian dollars, but still, that's a lot of cash. I'm including taxes in my guess - not sure if you pay all taxes when getting a tune from Trifecta, etc. Especially for out-of-country folks like myself.

I agree with this guy 100%
My goal is to bolt on up to 300 whp and huge torque......while holding onto reliability.

Honestly though, are you going to drag race to work everyday??

If the car is a daily , there should be no debate. If the car is your weekend toy , then that is one's choice. The car has not been out that long , so there is no real evidence that backs how long the car itself is going to stay together. Couple that with an aftermarket that is brand new, is too much IF for me. GM tune all the way, plus bolt ons is the way to go.
$1000 dollars for the amount of power that we are getting is phenomenal. I spent $1200 on an exaust for my WRX and then another $800 on ECU just to get in the stock range of these cars from the factory.

Whole kits will take precedence if there is any chance at a part out.
It'll probably be in the install instructions for them to tighten down the clamps on the boost piping... Also, doesnt the HHR have the same plastic boost tubing we do? I think all these crazy stories about the piping blowing off are from really aggressive tunes with huge boost spikes.
I wouldn't think they would break it up. They spent all this time perfecting the tune to be used as a whole kit. I would imagine using it without it the "inlet" would at least give you less power than advertised and at most give you CELs/issues.
Yeah, this would be a great time for the aftermarket to come out with stage kit compatible kits, so that we could just get it installed on those parts instead of the hackjob-and-redo, since many dealerships don't really care about installing parts.. it's still business/income for them. If one of those TMAPs goes on the cold side piping, then once again... amazing chance to have somebody else do the boost piping since the cold side's a PITA. Plus, it may even save you some on labor, since they won't have to cut holes and things. It'd be a clean install.

but my buddy works for GM and he said as of now you cant piece the kit you have to buy the whole kit... im thinking i will buy the kit and just sell the intake
Heck, buy the kit and sell both GM intakes (stock and kit one). Tell'em to keep your aftermarket one on there if you've got one then.
my dealership is cool as hell they tell me to bring my car in and let them see it when i do more stuff to it... i had about 3k worth of work done and i didnt pay one penny
im sure they wuldnt mind doin the kit for me without the intake i mean i am giving them 1k for the kit or whatever the price is
Ok, now that we KNOW it's coming out... and approximately when... My next dilemna is that my 17yr old son and myself are leaving at the end of June to go from Arizona to Ohio taking as much of route 66 as possible. We won't be back until mid August.
Do I order it to the dealer where I bought my car?
Can I order it do a dealer in Ohio?
Will there be a limited # of these for each state?
Can any dealer install them?
If I get it installed and tuned in Ohio, will it be necessary to get it retuned when I get back to Arizona since the climate is different?
As far as stress goes...they're GOOD things...but it's things that I wonder about.

If GM has ANY sense, they will make a boat load of these kits and try to get every Cobalt SS to buy one....its easy money for them.
Also, I'm willing to bet it will be a pretty basic tune that is designed to work in a wide range of climates.
But that is a great drive down route 66....I did that drive about 8 years ago...started in Phildelphia and took the famous roads all the way to Los Angeles.....but that was when I only had a 93 Ford Crown Vic.....comfy ride but what a boat that thing was....haha....enjoy your trip
A lot of the Solstice guys install their own kits it seems, and then just limp it into the dealer for the flash... no warranty issues. I'll most likely do that myself too if it comes to it, only because I'm VERY **** about wiring and want everything soldered, heat shrinked and all that jazz.
Either way great news, and glad I was patient. Full powertrain warranty + emissions is worth the price of admission right there. This is my DD, not my weekend car and really don't care to deal with hard parts breaking on my dime
Also might be moving to a state with emisssions again in the not too distant future.
