Well we really didn't get an A to B comparison but I can say this much.

From stage 2 to 2.8 60lbers ported head / tuned we picked up 30-35whp and 30-35wtq. So call it 15-20hp for the head and 10-15hp for the tune or vise versa.

Fred @ SMG did a before and after on an SC car. I believe it was a 2.8 car. All that was done was a tune and headwork. You know what he saw? Guess?

Nothing! Minimal gains! How could that be? Bad port job?? Nope.

The truth of the matter is the SC and pulley with it are the limiting factor on that motor as it sits. Without doing anything else the air flow is still limited to what the SC can provide. He saw a drop in boost about 5psi and a gain about 5whp. Now on a motor setup like mine where airflow isn't limited by a pulley, or maybe on a tvs car where it's ramming 20psi down the throat of the motor you would probably see substantial gains. But on a 2.8 stock M62 car your not going to get much out of a ported head.

**** let the boost drop down 5 psi and gain 5whp... that much of a pressure drop is fantastic, although realistically i would guess anywhere from 20-50whp depending on mods

it seems that no one has sheets on a direct comparison with nothing but the head and tune changed.

I will also have a before and after dyno on the m62 and tvs as soon as it warms up.

But like I said the gains with a slight pulley drop, a tune and a ported head were 30-35/30-35

So what were the A vs B numbers? So we can get an idea of the before and after and what sort of dyno it was on?

Pinky swear? lol

And just so everyone is clear about what a before after test means....

1. Tune the car for max performance and dyno the car for the baseline

2. Install ported head with out making any changes to the tune and re-dyno.

3. Then re-tune the car for max power and re-dyno for the ***** to the wall comparison.

My local shops allows me to flash on new tunes between runs. So I could run the apples vs apples test and then flash on the new ***** to the wall tune.

sounds great ebristol, looking forward to the results. What kind of head you running? GMR? Euthanasia? Local port job? And what are the flow numbers just so we know about what kind of port job it is.

Still worth a post so people have an idea of the type of performance to expect from a similar mod list
