Changed S/C coupler and oil
Changed S/C coupler and oil
So today i changed the supercharger coupler and oil on my friends car. I took the snout off and their was only a drop of oil in their. Is this normal? I wouldnt think so. I couldnt find any leaks and don't see where it could be going. So i put the new coupler in from zzp and put in 8oz of oil i guess i will have to check it in a few weeks. This just seemed weird but ive never done a supercharger oil change.
Anyone have any imput on this?

If Im Not Mistaken The Super Charger Is Only Supposed To Hold About 4 Ounces Of Oil You Lay The S/c Down And Fill Till It Leaks Out The Hole Just Like The Trani. If You Fill The S/c With Moe Than This It Will Eventualy Break The Seal And You Will Have A Leak If You Alread Y Didnt . I Changed My Oil Last Weekend Only Used Half Of The Bottle Of Oil.
If You Think Im Wrong You Should Do A Little More Research On This Before You Bus A Seal

Well what the heck, my friend said zzp said to put in 8oz. Thats what they sent when he ordered their refill kit. syringe, sealer, and 2 4 oz bottles
I just found this
How To: change s/c oil
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
got this directly from an Eaton rep. what isnt mentioned is unplugging the MAP sensor harness to fit the allen wrench. and the size hose i used was 3/16" vacuum hose. however 3/8" vac hose will also work. of course this is assuming the supercharger is still installed on the car. if you have the s/c off for a pulley swap or what not, then simply remove plug, dump oil, and replace
How its done:
Parts:
You will need two bottles of GM supercharger oil, GM p/n: 12345982 , this can be purchased at any GM dealership
Tools:
Turkey baster
Short hose- needs to fit over end of turkey baster, and in s/c plug, about
6" long.
3/16 Allen wrench or hex bit
NOTE: Make sure that your engine is cool before starting this!
1-Unscrew the super charger oil inspection plug (a black plug at the front of the
super charger snout using a 3/16 hex head).
2-Insert the tube (that's attached to the turkey baster in to the hole and suck out as much oil as you can. This may have to be done many times to remove as much of the oil that you can. Dispose
of your old/used oil with your old motor oil in an environmentally SAFE manner.
3- Add the oil until it fills the snout to the bottom of the threads. It will take almost two bottles. Be careful to NOT overfill!
4- Screw the plug back in and do not over torque. 8-12 ft/lbs is more than enough!
5- After driving around for a day or so, check the oil level while the car is on a level surface. It's also a good idea to check the level of your supercharger snout at every oil change.

I would like to know what is right. I don't want to wreck my friends s/c. But that post i found is from the eaton rep and zzp sends 2 bottles so i'm assumeing that it does take 8 oz
Fact remains no one has gotten a straight answer from anyone including the Eaton reps because they say it never needs to be changed. I just put in a little more than a bottle (about 1 1/4 and havent had a problem.)
Ok so how exactly is someone to check the level on them? It is not like there is a dipstick in there.
EATON SAYS 3.4 OZ from a dry fill. That means either taking off the charger and turning it over to drain, or removing the snout. If you use a turkey baster... you will not remove 3.4 oz.. you will have to measure what you take out and pour the exact amount of the new oil back in. 8 Oz. will create more pressure which will cause the snout seal to fail over time.
I have no idea how these other guys filled it up with 8ounces or more . Unless they stood the s/c up on the tb side and pored the oil directly into the hole wich then it mite take 8ounces . But for those who know you cant overfill anything that works with oil because it will bust a seal in time. Wether its the s/c or even engine oil seals will eventually leak.
