From what I see on here, it sounds like it just makes sense for anyone buying this to cut that smaller diameter tubing on the end. I can't really see a purpose to that (besides making it easier for the filter that comes with it to fit).

Seems a little pointless to have an aftermarket intake that starts smaller and then increases in diameter...

I didn't cut the one that I have. Other than fitment, I really havent had any issues. I expected some rubbing with any aftermarket application.

i got my ebay intake installed. when test drove it i was loosing boost @ higher rpms. I decided it was the small opening so i cut it. now im holding 15 psi all the way. cel went away by itself. now is it normal to see lower boost with a cai. befor i was boosting at 16.5psi. thanks

COuld be oil from the k&n filter getting on the maf. Those filters tend to do that.

Just dynoed the car with this intake today... I guess the reduction at the end really chokes the airflow more than the stock setup. AFR's were 10 flat all the way through all three pulls. I did 2 pulls in 4th, and 1 in 3rd. Boost would only come up to about 9 or 10 psi, which is weird because on the street, I can get 12.5, but I am usually dropping a gear and stabbing the gas. I was really disapointed in the numbers, guess I will be cutting the reducing part of the pipe off tomorrow.

The guys at the shop said that they could tune the car for about $400 with HP tuners, is that about the normal price? I dunno...

Wow, that's a crazy price for a tune... As far as I know, they would be ripping you off. Sorry things didn't work out for you. It would be interesting to see more dynos with these installed to see if they are worthwhile or not. Maybe they are all sound and no extra power...

As for the restriction, not to sound like a broken record, but why wouldn't everyone just cut that piece out from the start? I just seems pointless to buy something for better flow and see a restriction built into the design and not remove it.

Spectre Air Filter???

Hey guys.. that air filter looks exactly like the SPECTRE AIR FILTER #8132 in RED that I picked up at PEP BOYS to do the air box mod! $26 out the door
http://www.cobaltss.net/forums/showt...t=3890&page=25
it is a high flow element w/ a 10yr/100,000 mile warrantied filter... actually not a bad looking filter (I have been running K&N's for 20+ years).

here is a website selling that filter for $39.99
www.sfxperformance.com/parts/SPT9732.htm
is that the filter you got?

I threw a the check engine light initially because it is an oiled filter from the factory. I had the SC down at Crate Engine Depot for an oil change and have them look the car over before I go Auto-Xing, they cleaned the MAF and gave me an upgraded REFLASH. I have not thrown a code since .... I would say it is not the filter causing you to throw a code!!!

the EBAY intake is a great looking item... how much was it???

Bumpin an oldie thread, I went to the dyno again yesterday. the only changes to the car since the last time on the dyno was cutting the intake and oil changes. The first time at the dyno, the car pulled 109hp, 190tq. This time, it pulled 231hp, 210tq. I think that is proof enought for me to say, cut the end off...

Sorry for bring back old threads. I ordered my ebay intake last week and it will be here on wednesday. I plan on installing it on friday with a different filter (probably K&N). Sorry but some of the pics that show where to cut the pipe are GONE! I am not sure if i will have to cut mine or not but im guessing i will... so can someone please repost the pics or atleast help me out by letting me know where to cut?? Below is a link to the CAI i ordered.

when you get it, it will be pretty obvious to you. it is the filter side of the intake by the MAF mount. It reduces from 3" to 2 and some change.
