how to keep your lsj alive in the winter
That's something else I was going to ask around here.
When you guys first start your car, what do you let it warm up to before driving. For anyone who did not understand that, during the winter you are supposed to let your engine coolant temp warm up before you drive.
The other day I went out and started it, looked at the coolant temp and it was like 31 degrees. I hate this cold crap, I let it warm up to 100 before I backed out of the drive way, and then didn't take it over 2500rpm's until she was at 180.
My general rule of thumb is, "wait until its at 100 ect" what do you guys do?

normally is me having my foot into it, hitting like 2-3lbs of boost, and shifting at 2500rpms. I generally don't drive "normal" until its 100% warm at 180 which takes roughly 5-7 mins on these 20-30degree days I would say.
I do have another question. IF my camshaft position sensor was bad, would I have a permanent CEL or would it come and go?
I currently at idle have a slight misfire/stumble/hesitation and I don't think it is tuning related, but could be.

I normally let mine idle enough to raise the temps 20-30* and then drive. I used to wait until temps hit 100* and take it easy, but now I just let them warm 20-30*, wait for the oil pressure to build, and then take it easy until 140, slightly getting into it until it's fully warm at 180*.
Great thanks bryan. I might invest in an oil pressure gauge, water temp gauge, and maybe another gauge or two lol. Hmmm they should make something that mounts on top of our dashboards above the radio/cd player that can hold like 3 or 4 more gauges.
well I was out in the cold tonight giving my car it's usual friday night beating... still sitting pretty at 11.2 afr and 19 degrees of timing... ****** spins 3rd hard from a roll
thank god. i thought this was another thread asking what snow tires to buy or winter driving tips. mother ****** i drove a 450rwtq mustang with summer tires on it thru 2 michigan winters. my tip: quit being a *****.
carry on.
carry on.
*side note*
saw a modded 06 STi on the side of the road broken down, about to get towed. Wonder if the idiot blew the motor because of the cold. Thought of this thread when i saw it.

True. We were watching a video the other day of last year at some of the race spots, everyone wearing jackets and all bundled up, bitching about how cold it was... It was only like 40*F too, not really cold for most people. For us though, thats cold
If the car is completely warmed up to operating temp, and your afr is safe, we will say 11.3 to 11.5 is there a problem with doing A SINGLE wot pull from 1st to 3rd?
I enjoy entering boost and doing a hard pull coming home every now and then or when getting on the highway. But if the afr is fine, and the car is warmed up and the oil is flowing there should be NO problems other than your/my exhaust gas temps.
However if its a single pull, I don't think the egt's would be put into a dangerous zone would it? Also I am talking about under 40 degree days, anywhere from 20 degrees to 35 degrees outside temp.
Let me know your guys opinions, thanks.
PS: I am thinking about grabbing an egt gauge. What are the normal/safe temps and what are the "dont push the car any more" / unsafe temps

wow not related tuning wise, but the balt almost met it's demise this morning via taxi. ****** didn't just merge into me, he cut hard into my lane doing 30 as I was passing him doing 60... I can't believe I went onto the shoulder of the triboro bridge (contruction) between a bunch of barrels and the wall (less than a lane wide) and didn't hit anything. I threw everything I had in the car at this non english speaking piece of donkey **** mother ****** and the dude wouldn't even look at me. Even jumped out of my car at the toll booth and ran at the piece of **** and he took off. God I wish I was in my jeep cause I woulda put that dude into the wall.
this may have been answered earlier in the thread but I wasn't about to read 11 pages, for the winter conditions and stage 2, I realize I don't have to change the pulley back out, but do I have to be more careful of how often I WOT
