no it breaks at the bottom at first and that allows the chain to float and the tensioner tries to compensate for it so it comes and goes. Meh, you will dive in and find the answer sooner or later. IIRC the guide is not difficult to change, BUT pieces of it will be in the oil pan. Best to drop the motor down enough to pull the crank damper and front cover and fix it right the first time with all the right parts.

I ordered the deluxe timing set...

$300 is cheaper then a new motor.

^^^ good plan. I would use blue loctite on the new 6 mm x 1.0 mm guide bolts, you MUST use a torque wrench ,the spec is 89 inch lbs. The water pump bolt through cover bolt is different its 14 ft lbs IIRC ask Armclure he just replaced that bolt .

I was reading the LSJ build book..

When it comes to assembly lube does it really matter what kind?
