Its stored in the ECU that also has your cars VIN # in it. You can't change it and it is a federal offence to do so. Please do not mention this again or I will have no choice but to sick monorail cat on you.

Thats cool figure a way to roll it back and watch what happens after resale. Its called fraud and YES it IS illegal! You know that warrenty you have? THATS why its illegal, you're attepting to defraud the manufacturer or future buyers by tampering with the odometer in order to make its resale value higher. Fraud and possibly theft as well.

Doubt me if you want but the State Police come around to inspection stations and randomly check the inspections and cars and if one is found to be tampered with its a BIG ASS fine on the shop. So long as the cops can proove it, but regardless after that the car is worthless.

The OP asks a simple, legit question OBVIOUSLY related to swapping clusters and not rolling back the ODO, and you guys continue to put words in his mouth and call him a scumbag? What the ****?

Classy guys, real classy.

I think mileage is bullshit

Mileage should apply to the body parts only. In relation to the engine and transmission, rotation count should be used

I say hours should be used for the engine. Mileage ain't rackin up when you are sitting in rush hour traffic.

Yeah but rotations is exactly how many times the engine has turned over.

Mileage isn't an accurate count IMO, because a car can have 200 miles on it, but for all you know, all of that mileage could have been done banging off the rev limit in first gear.

Or vice versa. My car is mostly highway, and my engine rarely revs past 2,500rpm in the city, and 1,500 rpm on the highway.

If the use of an engine was kept track using rotation count, you could easily tell how much an engine was beat on in the past by comparing mileage versus rotations

BTW, theres no way to **** with the mileage on this car. The best you can do is slow it down by changing the tire size in HPTuners
