TVS question on stock motor..help!!
To answer the clutch question, I replaced my spec stage 3 clutch with the stock one after it broke and all I can say is that the stock one is useless it doesn't hold n e thing unless u roll into it. If I roll into it only slips a little but if I bring it to the track I have to back off between shifts and wait for the clutch to grab. I went to the track a few months ago and ran a 14.1 @ 106 with a 2.2 60 foot time that's how bad the stock clutch slips. My mods are in my sig
To run the TVS, you need tune, 60's preferably 80's (room to grow) and stage 2 belt for anything other than the 3.15" it comes with. All other mods: pistons, cooling, intake, exhaust, mounts, etc are all SUPPORTING. It's a matter of how you want to run the car.
And for the debate over "when do you need "x" mod?" Well, it again depends on the car and what the fueling/KR look like. If it's knocking, you need methanol or E85 or less timing/fuel tweaks. It's it's got high injector duty cycle, you need to step up fueling. It's all circumstantial

There is no set recipe that dictates what your car will do with specific modifications. The tune/tuner is the best indicator of whether "mod X" will be safe on your car.

the stock pulley tvs will feel slower than a pullied m62 but its just a feeling. the m62 with a 2.7 or so on it will hit real hard right away but the stock pulley tvs will wind out much better.
thats why i have a 2.5 pulley on the tvs, so it hits harder than the m62 and winds out further

Trying to avoid this site because everything tech question is a rehash and people are trying to find a new answer to the same problem when the solution is already out there. Kinda been getting out of the cobalt scene a little. It's getting old.

Yeah, the newbs are really starting to bring this site down.
I tell people this all the time, but they cont. to think all clutch slip is due to the big power they are making, haha.

When I was stock or stage 2 back when I first got the car I thought the clutch was garbage. I just didn't know how to drive it. trying to grab 2nd gear while spinning tire in 1st, rolling into the throttle before the clutch was fully engaged. probably shaved a good years worth of driving off the clutch just from being a n00b.

Well the clutch only had 10k miles on when I brought it to the track so it was practically brand new. I don't ride the clutch when driving on the street to keep it grabby for when I want to to get on it. I have a 70% boost cut in first gear and barely ride the clutch out on the launch so you guys tell me what's wrong. And I replaced the hydraulic throw out bearing the clutch master cylinder and the clutch rod when my spec clutch jammed at high rpms n destroyed everything in the hydraulic system. And I replaced the friction disc on my flywheel when I put the stock clutch in. So please enlighten me about why it slips if it's not power related. I can't even spin the tires in the car cause the clutch slips first
