Just a question, if you are going to go NA all that way, why not look into a company that might make some higher compression pistons for you. If you are going to open up the engine (with stage 3 that is a must), why not see if you can get one of the companies that already make some pistons, to make some with higher compression. That would give you another bump in power, but you would also need new injectors. Just an idea, good luck with your build, I am glad to see someone going a different way from everyone else.

And if you are going with some higher compression pistons, you might as well get some headwork done while you are at it.

Thanks I appreciate the compliment and that has crossed my mind too about higher compression pistons but heres the thing.....This is the first I have ever modded and I never meant for it to get this far but heres how I look at it I ve taken it this far why not? It just never ends but yeah it would be cool to have a 200+hp N/A cobalt can't say I ve seen one of those yet

Bump for more input

Not hating..just saaayying..
His 180whp dyno was uncorrected.
He ran a 14.9 at 94mph..Didn't he also have mild head work done? His traps are about the same as the other 2.2's at the top of the list. That's not 190whp.

still pretty damn good.
It would take alot more than a cam swap . That alone won't add close to ~50-60whp.

1. His 180 was considered fudged because his afr ratio was running too rich
2. He had a milled head thats it
3. Whoever said it was going to add 50-60whp?

Thanks for your input....Oh btw don't you think with everything I have listed plus stage 3 cams and full valvetrain rebuild 200 - 20whp would be acheivable sounds very doable to me

Most of the bolt-on 2.2's put down in the 150WHP range. Do you really expect to hit 200+whp with just cams?

Enough of his dyno talk, if he is making that much power whats up with his track times?

BTW, here is a corrected dyno of a full bolt-on, STG 1 cam's 2.2
http://i348.photobucket.com/albums/q...Stage1Cams.jpg
That's only 163whp..stage 2 won't add an additional ~20 whp..and stage 3 won't add an additional ~20+ whp. This is a tiny mild compression 2.2 not an LS1

Not everyone is a proffesional driver ever thought of that? And you right stage 2 prob wouldn't add an additional 20whp but I bet you full mounts lighter pulleys and flywheel would get you pretty damn close and please spare me the lecture of pullies add maybe 1hp at best speech I know this.

And I never said I expected to hit 200whp it would be nice and I think that its doable and not with JUST CAMS but with....CAI, 2.4 Intake Mani, Ported 2.4 TB, Pacesetter Header, Custom Downpipe w/ Hi-Flow Cat, Custom Catback exhaust, Underdrive Pulley, Lightweigtht Alternator Pulley, Lighweight Flywheel, Stage 1/2 Clutch, Solid Motor Mount, Poly Tranny Bushings, Poly CABs, Stage 3 Cams w/ a fully redone valvetrain, and an aggresive tune.

Now if you dont have anything else better to do with your time then to come in here in nit pick and tear apart what ppl have to say and not have any constructive or helful criticism other than being an lsj or lnf nut hugging fan boy and tell me sell it and get an SS or go FI then GTFO!!!! of my thread.

Thnxkbai

Seriously though if you want to make "decent" power look into a high compression build. The bad thing is spending all that money, even if you pulled crazy numbers like 250-260whp NA it would still be slow in comparison.

exactly money and time invested in a n/a build would be worthless unless your running in some type of class with a certain motor. but these motors love f/i and new internals.. i sware it loves cams!

cause most people's 2.2's are there DD. and its a lot more then "just throwing pistons in"

Stage 2 cams will have a bigger effect on it being a DD than higher compression pistons. Though if your referring to down time, it can be done in a full weekend.

i dont think cams would have any issues mine drives perfect with them it just shakes/lopes alot at idle.

I know it's fine. Just saying it would effect it more as far as sound/idle/etc for a DD than a bump in compression.

you do realize that your not suppose to run solid lifters with a hydraulic cam right?
so as far as having to run solid lifters with the stage 3's i wouldnt do it unless the cam was a solid or billet style cam
