Too Lean

Wondered if there are any options to fix a too lean code other than a tune. I have replaced the stock header and DP with an SS header and XTC catless pipe and now receiving this code. My only thought was possibly running higher octane but not sure if it would help.

Take out the battery for 10 min and put it back in. It resets the computer. If that doesn't work try unplugging the battery and filling the tank full with the highest octane you can buy and then reconnecting and running the car. If you can't get it rich enough like that, tune it.

higher octane fuel doesn't make the vehicle run more rich.

Yeah but if getting too much air, upping the octane will produce a larger explosion and might counter it out. Eg.: forced induction cars need high octane fuel.

No, octane makes NO differance in lean or rich conditions.
If all you did was replace exhaust parts then you have a problem. You have a leak. Changing exhaust parts will makes NO differance inthe air coming in.

Well i also have a CAI which is now more effective with a more free flowing exhaust. I think this weekend I am going to check the plugs and possibly replace if needed, clean the MAF Sensor, and replace the intake filter and see what I find out

Not sure what the reading is on it but it is not throwing any codes. I have a 90* extension adapter for it which works out great. There are several other catless guys that use this to prevent the o2 from throwing a code and from the sound of it, one of the only things that really works to prevent them

put your cat back in if you can, no reason to take it out

I doubt that you are running lean, and if you are, it's time to check the MAF, check for intake leaks, have you recently removed your throttle body or intake manifold?

I'm betting it's just a code being thrown because of the catless downpipe, even though logically you would expect it to sense the mixture being too rich because there's no cat to filter it.

Please tell me your not serious. Cats are very restrictive. Removing them increases performance and air flow. They are only there for emissions and MI has no emission laws.

I have found out what was causing the lean code on the first o2 sensor. Turns out that the place that installed the bung had a bad weld and it was leaking. Patched it up and its all good now.
