When you get your pistons upload some pics eh? Did you have a certain tech help you with the pistons at Wiseco that I could contact as well? I've decided to stick with 10.4 compression since I will be running e85 most of the time. There are tons of e85 stations in my area.

Sure thing, I'd be going even higher with e85 but this carburetored hick town tops out @ 91

That Mcgee guy has really warped my head, has me rethinking some things. I may just keep my stock rods and pistons but do a ring and rod bearing refresh as wiseco has a bunch of tech specs missing from their le5 dbase...and they want me to fill the gaps, lol. I've sent them the gmperf build guide pdf but still missing some info, like dish cc# and rod length (not stroke). They also can't get the K1 rods anytime soon.

I'm gonna stay under 300, with stock internals and skip revving it past 7200. So no neutrals or ati balancer either, at least not yet.
This weeks order, for my xmas party:
Rockauto: ACDelco Timing Chain Tensioner , POSN 1 and 2ACDelco O2 sensors, DNJ Piston ring set and Con Rod bearing kit.
CED: Ecotec Cam Gear Bolt Set, TTY, Ecotec Balancer Bolt (still have to pull side cover to retime after head swap, this bolt is TTY), 2007 Cobalt / Pursuit Service Manual GMPANS
ZZP: Eibach front sway bar, Stage 2 belt and a modular 3.0 pulley, because the 3.1 is way too tight with the phenolic spacer.
$750, $10 more than wiseco pistons after skirt coating, tax and shipping. Yeah I cheaped out but spring is another opportunity to reassess. IPT 4t45e rebuild needs to be saved up for as well.
picking up snap on stud collet housing: CG500-2, Housing (For CG500 Series Collets) and the right collet, which I believe is a m10-1.25 but I need to get a m10-1.25 nut to be sure. Any info appreciated.
I'd love the set: CGM515B, Set, Metric, Stud Remover, 15 pcs. (M6-1.00 thru M16-2.00) but damn, $400+

Ugh! Yeah I am feeling the same way....frickin McGee guy is right The last thing I want though is to be 400 miles away and break something internally. I am looking at ZZP rods and their JE pistons again. But at the same time...can I make 350whp on an m62? If not then whats the point of me upgrading all this ****. I was thinking I could with a ported head, 2.7ish pulley and e85(along with my already ported SC, ZZP cams and a full exhaust). I just feel like I am really taking a risk on breaking up a piston/rod even though numerous people have pushed well beyond 350whp on the stock bottom end.

I've had ZZP get me some info that wiseco needed, didn't know that the le5 zzp rods are .01 longer than oem so look for A 1/4 point cr boost if you don't take that into account. I'll give this another day to shake out, with the head coming off is the best opportunity to do this once only. It would be overkill, but I'd die if i blew a rod or piston and knew I had the chance to do something about it.
From ZZP: For the 2.4L LE5 pistons, I need the following information:
Rod Length: 5.659 Rod Eye Width: .942 Rod Eye Thickness (thickness above the piston pin): .200
Pin diameter: 20mm
Do you know your cylinder head cc's? 57 We show 60cc on file.
Gasket thickness: .026-.028

I had a fawk it moment today too! I decided to finally schedule a dyno to see what I am making so I have a baseline to help me decide on internals. I am dynoing tomorrow night at a local shop. I started talking with ZZP and if it looks like I need forged parts I am just ordering their pistons and rods. Zoomer eluded that I would make more power if I rev it out, but I am just wondering if I can put up with neutral shafts and poly mounts. The HHR vibrates like a huge ***** with poly mounts. At the same time though, I wouldn't be taking full advantage of the ZZP cams if I don't throw some revs at them so I may go that route too.

Don't waste your time on DIY poly mount mods. I tried it twice and could not get the polyurethane to bond well enough. It separated within a few weeks and it took like 3 days to cure. I ended up getting TTR trans and engine mounts.
On a side note...I was wondering if simply popping out the stock bushing and reinstalling it at 90 degrees in the stock mount would work. That way power is transferred into solid rubber vs the void area for comfort. As long as they are in the center, it wont change drive line geometry. If I didn't destroy my stock transmission bushings I would try it.

Good to know, hoping the Stiffy mount will suffice. TTR has poly inserts for the auto I believe but vibrations really irritate me, so we'll see how i react to the zzp neutrals lol.
My new oem rear tranny bushing actually rotated within the housing while I fiddled with it and the offset was enough to make install impossible, I had a hell of a time getting it back to proper position. Your mileage may vary though.

Lol. I told my boss when I left work today that I was hoping for 265whp. So I was close with my estimate.
Peak hp was at 6700rpm, but it was a nice plateau at 6000rpms and creeped downward at 6800 ...I thought with the cams it would be a bit higher. With a ported head I think it will move the peak hp quite a bit higher. Held over 215tq from 3 to 6k rpms peaking at about 4700.
I don't have a scanner but I will try to get a pic of the graph up soon. Site won't let me upload for some reason...

Just got my exhaust:
Sounds way better than the stock tubing w/magnaflow. I can honestly feel the pickup in acceleration after the install. Can't believe it. I wasn't expecting my tune to be so far off after a catback either. Definately flowing now. I put a caliper on the stock exhaust and there was one point where the od was only 2". Otherwise it was pretty a consistent 2.25" This ZZP I got is the 2.5".
In the works for the next 2 weeks:
Sticking with the 3.1" for now
e85 tune
If I have enough room with my 60s on e85, I will put on the 2.9.
Then another dyno. I actually think I may be close to 300whp with the 3.1 and e85.
If I don't have any room with the 60s I am just waiting to run 80s until I port the head and get my new clutch. Thinking about the ZZP 2.4 kit.

I used the kent moore tool that bolts on the head like the book describes...I think I have install pics...let me look. Honestly I couldn't imagine using anything else. It was cake. That tool is great. Glad I picked it up because I am going to use it again. Got it on ebay for 75 bucks I think. New its a **** load more.
What pistons did you decide on?
I have been asking ZZP about pushing the stock bottom end, but they have shied away from answering directly. I understand though, I guess, this motor could fail bone stock and we are pounding the **** out of it. I am going to push it a bit more with my set up and see what it yields.

My other idea was just do the rods. I haven't found any issues of the ringlands breaking. Have you?
I am going to do ZZP rods though for sure. I just don't want to join the crowd of users that upload pictures of their blocks with big holes through the side.
