I have the next few days off where I planned to put it all on but the turbo won't be here til next week but I'm going to get as much as possible done, to do list for tmo is weld oil return bung on oil pan, weld bov flange on hotside pipe, clean ZZP manifold and downpipe, and finish the coldside before the maf

I hope that is a dent in the table.....or a real bad pic......or whatever
is causing it to look like the gasket surface got warped when welded ?????

yeah it's either that or because I had it propped up to see the weld for the picture. welding that shitty, oily cast aluminum sucks big time though lol

574 I'm jealous of your build, I would love to build my engine at some point. Did you have any experience building engines before or first time?

Put a new top end on my quad. First go at building a car engine. It's relatively simple, gauge everything out, take your time and have someone knowledgeable with ecotecs that is willing to answer your questions. We will see how mine turns out though

Gotcha, well maybe you'll be my guy when its my turn to build! Are you using any kind of steps/guide or just kind of common sense?

I think after a few months of this I'll buy a used block to sleeve and drop internals in. I'd love to have a mid 400's whp car that's reliable. I already got a head I'm gonna port + springs, no idea when I'll install that tho

Our four cylinders are straight forward if you know what's going on. Get cylinders honed to match pistons, file fit rings, plastigauge all bearing clearances, gauge rod and crank end play, torque all bolts to spec an that's the jist of it. And the right lube in the right places

This looks really good so far. E85 makes this build so great.

Im buying a tig welder this week and getting a crash course from a friend. I'm really interested in fabricating parts like you're doing here.

Noor, you need to tune this little piggy with iat2 especially if you're pushing this car on the track as you intend. I noticed it was brought up in earlier posts, but not sure if you went through with it. The ecm has a timing table based off iat that I'm sure you saw, but since you're boosted that table becomes way more important. Splice the wires from the maf to a tmap on the manifold. Just a 3rd gear pull in the Solstice I see 20 degree rise in temps with a werks cooler and thats less than 6 seconds of wot. If you're romping it you're prob gonna be way higher for minutes.

Jason, I was just thinking about this the other day; Because I'm running a blow-thru MAF (in the coldside charge pipe) shouldn't that IAT I'm going to be picking up from the MAF be exactly the same as the manifold temp? It is still IAT2, because it is post intercooler just not in the manifold, but I believe the temp increase would be negligible.

I definitely think that it will be important, and I'll need to take away a lot more spark advance with higher IATs but I'm just thinking that the coldside CP is a very good representation of what the manifold will actually be seeing.

But thanks man! Great idea on buying a TIG too, I love mine. If you ever want any online pointers I can try to help lol

Ahh...Yes. Then you are fine, nm your on top of it. That is what I want to try on the Solstice as well. The fueling lag with the maf at the intake tube is terrible. Rich spike and lean correction when going wot. I'm going to try moving the maf to the coldside and see what happens...I understand it works better for the transition to wot, but can other issues at idle or low airflow...I think I can iron that out though.

When I first went SC I just did iat before SC. Thats how the zzp SC kit is set up. As I researched, I realized how important tuning from iat2 is and switched the next day. lol

Also lets see that turbo!(eff nm saw you missed it)

Oh, you have a bead roller? Or just end pieces from the tubing kit you ordered?

That's a good idea, I've seen alot of LNF's do the maf relocation to the lower chargepipe. Are you going to try to make them yourself? The only way to learn to tig is by practice!

Nah no bead roller, I was thinking amount making one but I don't really need it. I either use the ends that are already rolled like the kit provides or just throw a thick bead around the outside with the tig

Well I got everything installed this weekend. I believe I have a vacuum leak though causing idle to be very poor. Will be working on this then finally get into the fun part WOT tuning Pics will come after I get this bullshit idle issue solved.
