OFFICIAL Blown 4-banger build updates!
you'll be disappointed when it doesn't make the power you want...this much i know.
how much power did you tell them you wanted to make? as i said , your shooting for a cam thats more aggressive then a cam used to support 600whp?
why not be smart and realistic with your power goals and aim for power in a usable rpm range?
hey Witt!!!!!!!!

that is all

I think its funny that because I said I worked at and engine building shop for a few months, thats all the knowlage I've ever gained. I've been around engines and tuning and racing since I was a baby. My dad and I had a 10 second Nova when I was like 10 years old, then we sold it and built an 11 second Nova after. I've also helped many friends build their engines, and tune. I know my way around an engine quite well.
...However I am still wondering why all the sudden you guys went on attack, I can't think of anything I did to justify a random attack on my build

I've been rollin on two almost maxed out credit cards for like 4 months now. Funds are dry, I now must regroup and start saving again. This build has cost a lot more than I was hoping (what a surprise).
P.S. Those who think a new grind is the ONLY way to change LSA, read this.

I would, but I can't afford it either

As soon as I started reading the last page, I started searching for my cam info. It was funny to see that you posted that site, because that was one of the sites that I have bookmarked as well.
I don't think that these guys realize that, while you are going to start with the stock blower, you aren't gonna stay with that blower for very long. But I don't want to get into that, becaus then you are gonna have more dumbasses saying that isn't going to work either.
Oh well, some people. To me, I honestly think that you won't have any trouble flowing that much air, due to the huge weight reduction of your total rotating mass, and valve train mass. Yes, you will lose a bit of 1500K-2500rpm torque, but that thing is gonna scream above 4K.
just keep doin what you're doin. As far as I've seen, you are one of like...three people on here that decided to even attempt something this creative. I haven't had the chance (or time) to really read through this thread to see just how much effort and money went into this project but I would like to make mine a rwd car. Only thing is I want to keep it supercharged. Don't be discouraged because this is taking a long time: you're the first on this platform. Keep it up.
i don't know if this was directed at me or not, but i thought my point was valid of the car loosing a little down low because your going to be running 4* of overlap.
It was directed towards the trouble makers (Area 47, 06 Black). Your posts at least had a productive tone.
Those cam specs are pretty wicked, if anything its gonna be rough on a hydraulic valvetrain. This is a good setup for a Jesel valvetrain.
Cam, any advertised or seat duration numbers by any chance, I'm curious as to what the actual overlap is.
cam, the reason i popped in here and pissed in your shoes is because i was bored

nothing more. i to feel the crunch on the wallet. dropping a grand in one day does hurt.
i do how ever feel that the overlap is cause for alarm on the low end. dunno thats just me.

I actually do have advertised duration numbers. I just can't find the spec sheet. I believe it was in the 260's. Also it shouldn't be too hard on the valvetrain, because the valve stems will be longer than stock, so the slop that would normally be there, won't.
Oh, and Area47 I forgive you

Just as an fyi, my little 272s have pretty slow ramp but quite a bit of overlap and I see no ill effects so far of using a high overlap cam. However with the slow ramp its probably just enough to give it a little extra scavenging. They are 214 duration at 1mm btw and they pull good until about 7500-7600. At that point I can't tell if it starts to run out of steam from the cams or from the blower being overspun. Its more than likely the cams cause I think Dan was saying something similar with his turbo setup so in your situation you would probably make peak power at 8k and peak torque at 5-6 imo. You couldn't ask for anything better.
Are you going to be using the stock PCM?
With that quick of ramp you run the risk of collapsing a hydraulic lifter was what I meant. JBP sells Bates solid ones that are identical to the hydraulic dimensions and preserve the stock oiling location.
