My Fully Dipped Balt, from black to matte white (tons of pics)
I don't get why people hate on plastidip so much. Because its cheap? So what...not everything you do to a car has to be expensive. When I redid my wheels I spent less than $40 on the materials I needed and about 2 days of my time and my wheels came out looking beautiful. Does that make me cheap/chintzy as staged said because polishing my wheels didn't cost me an arm and a leg?
Looks pretty good man!
There are obviously a few imperfections and people jump all over you for it because they are too ignorant to READ that you need to touch up a few spots. I think it came out pretty nice and I'm thinking about plastidipping the spare ss bumper I have and just letting it sit for a year or two then peeling it off to prove to people that it will come off if you do it right (or maybe surprise myself when it doesn't come off. Either way once I go to take it off one of two things will happen:
1) I will post on the forums saying "hey look it came off just fine like it's supposed to" and people will start in with there crap coming up with a million excuses as too why I just got lucky or this or that
OR
2) I will post "hey look it didn't come off" and everyone will be like oh yeah told you so, haha you're an idiot, such a disgrace to the cobalt community
Conclusion: If you don't spend $100000 on every part of your cobalt, that if I remember right this community prides on being a cheap fast car, then it's just a piece of trash and humiliating to everyone else.

That was my thoughts... painting outside.. seems... like a terrible idea? lol
To the OP though, I think diping car parts is actually a decent idea. I wish I would have done my hood before I did a years worth of highway driving for school, or hitting up a lot of gravel roads. Then peel it off when your back to city driving. Seems like it could keep your paint sorta safe in adverse conditions.

We're just saying. It looks like poop and it CAN be a dick to get off not to mention its a half-ass alternative to vinyl. And for those bitching about vinyl prices, your argument is invalid.

well, like i said to each their own, i love it, and it wont be hard to take off, the only reason its hard to take off is because you didnt spray enough of the product to make a nice think layer, otherwise, if sprayed properly, it peels right off like a big sticker. It doesnt look like **** up close at all, it looks just as good in the pictures, its not textured, it dried realy nice, and it doesnt make the car look cheap at all. So everyone is entitled to their opinon, but honestly, i do something not alot have done and alot of people on here have just hated on it, I like it, and thats all that matters. If you saw it in person, you'd change your minds its real nice
And honestly...you didn't do anything that someone hasn't done before. You painted your car white....which is a factory color, except you did it on a budget. Just honest man.
The best use for plasti-dip is the originally intended use. Tool handles. Although the brush on tool handle plasti-dip also makes terrific electrical connection waterproofing.
The stuff doesn't harden like paint, so dust, sand, bugs, they all get embedded in it. Makes the car always look dirty.
Needless to say, I'm also not a fan of the plasti-dip your car fad.

He put it on a forum, he is going to get feed back. simple as that.
i tried the plastidip evo mod last summer and it lasted about 2 weeks before I hated how you couldnt keep it clean. this picture kind of shows how dirt embeds in it and bug splatters are a huge pain to wipe off without "damaging" the dip.. at least it peeled off as advertised, pretty simple

no staged, i totally agree with what your saying and I as well, try and get the best of the best when it comes to modding the car, just a fun project with the dip to see how it would all come out, and I do really think alot of peoples opinon's about the product, and how it looks on the car would change if they saw it in person i am comtemplating on getting the glossifier as well though
I can appreciate that.

I take pride in everything I do, and always want the best no matter what.
When it comes to my car, I will not cheap out or half ass anything. That's just how I am.
I never said you need to spend an arm and leg to get a good result, but when it comes to dipping a whole car, the results are always mediocre at best.
Painting wheels? I see no problem in that as long as you take your time, and do things right.

Yeah maybe hating was the wrong choice of words everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and as said, I did post on a public forum, I like it, and I'm hoping it stands up to the weather I've driven all over and so far no dirt or bugs still looks great, I respect everyone's opinions and like to hear the feedback. It was just a fun project that I don't regret doing and it was a nice change maybe next ill do monster green lol jk
Haha, I thought it was but I couldn't really tell so I was like dafuq?
I'm chill.
Question for anyone with any knowledge of plastidip.
Can you clear coat over plastidip to give it the glossy look as well as preserve the plastidip so it doesn't come off horribly or will regular paint/clear coat mess with the chemical build of plastidip and really make it a bitch to get off?

Everyone said the same thing when I painted my old Jeep Garnd Cherokee Flat black with spray paint. It had a crap respray on it though so IMHO the flat black was an improvement and other than me needing to redo the hood it looked pretty good for a rattle can job.

Nothing wrong with trying something new man.
I can appreciate that.
I stated my opinion. You don't have to like it.

Polished wheels not painted lol. Me and coolbalt1 hacked away at the dip on my wheels and spent a whole 2 days sanding/ polishing and it came out amazing. It didn't cost me how much it wouldve to have gotten polished by a expert. So what I'm saying is what you stated above. Didnt cost a arm and a leg and got a great result
I know you said you polished your wheels....
You simply just have to spray MORE plastidip, all these guys are just using too little. I guy a know had his Malibu matte black, removed it last week and didnt do it heavy enough and it was such a pain to remove!!!! Thick coats are key.
Its dumb to hate on something like this, its AFFORDABLE. There will always be people with money that can afford the best stuff that destory and pick apart the cheap stuff
