Need some painting advice

I am planning to paint my fiberglass bumper, fiberglass sideskirts, and plastic front bumper and lip kit. Can people give me some advice on prep work and what to do while painting?

Make sure you wash them good before you prime them or if they're primed wash that good before you paint it to and don't touch it withougt gloves before painting so you don't get oils on it because it will give you little fish eye dots in the paint.

i have no experience in this matter but i read somewhere that you should sand them with 400 grit, clean with plastic parts cleaner, apply adhesion promotor, then base/clear. That IS if there already primed correctly. Oh and it also said that you should make sure its scuffed up completely

Tar and wax remover is best to use. Do 3 coats of base and then 3 of clear. Wait 10 minutes tto spray after each base coat and then 15 after each clear coat to spray again. Do you know your mixing ratios?

This!

I manage an automotive paint supply store.. I can't tell you how many people try to do things on their own.. and end up paying someone to do it after they screw it up. ..even after I go through the exact process from start to finish.. haha.

Camo get it done professionally, theres alot more steps to take rather then painting metal parts. Ive painted a few fiberglass bumpers and Im still learning, if you dont have any experience in painting its not gonna come out good.

I work in a body-shop and i cant tell you how many bumpers i have to strip on a weekly basis because of people doing "touch ups" or flat out trying to paint it themselves with spray bombs or cheap paint. I'm glad to see that theres some folks that agree with me on this one!

PS most shops will charge you more for a redo than they would if the parts were left unmolested.
