What are you guys using on it after you wash it to get a nice shine? Mine gets some water spots, I love the matte color but I can never get it to look "new" again, I usually get streaks in it too if I put anything greasy on it to shine. Any products you guys recommend?

Tire shine the entire wheel just like the tire, it makes the plastidip glossy for a few days.

BTW 3 Can combo of Gloss Plastidip is like $30 shipped on dyc right now i just got 2 orders for several projects im doing.

Bc I am looking for a shine, but to keep the flat black look, rather than the greasy/wet looking tire shine

update on my plastidip experience. after i painted my hood and didnt like the way it turned out i peeled it only to find lil grey specks everywehere that i had to scrub to get off. well after that there were scratches everywhere and it seemed like everywhere there was a grey speck it left pits in my paint like lil dimples. i took a buffer and polising compound and it shined up the hood very well yet there are still deep scratches everywhere..........pretty disapointed in plastidip.

^^^^ YOU FAIL^^^^

No one else has problems. I just did my hood, came out perfect. (after i removed tape it bled abit and ill have to redo because it was too cold to dry properly, next time I will start the car to warm the hood)

I phail because plastidip fucked up my hood? How is it my fault that it left pits in my hood after using it? What did I alter the chemical makeup of the plastidip inside the sealed can before spraying? All I did was wash and dry my hood and sprayed it with black plastidip and peeled it off. What are y'all a bunch of kids on here?

sounds like your hood wasn't as clean as you thought it was or you had something on it that contaminated the dip once you sprayed it. i usually do a wash and throw a thin coat of spray wax on before i dip and i've never had an issue, i also used 4/5 coats and let it fully cure before i try to take it off

Idk I literally just washed it with dawn to remove all grease and contaminates and hand dried it right before spraying. I will say the cans I got didn't want to spray worth a damn. Nozzle kept clogging. I could have punched a hole in the side of the cans and gotten a better spray pattern. I had used it before on my wheels and had no.problems at all with spray pattern or nozzles clogging and when I peeled it off my rim it came off clean. Oh and the stuff was on my hood a good 4-6 hours before I peeled it.

the cans need to be at 60 degrees + to spray as designed, thats why everyone says keep the cans floating in a bucket of hot water or on your dash with the defrost on prior to spraying.

I tried spray plastidip outside when it was 10 degrees out, it was like silly string!!! haha

there's people that say using Dawn is fine, and then you're gonna have guys like me that say don't be cheap and go buy a bottle of Meguiars Car Wash THAT'S MADE TO BE USED TO WASH CARS! there's ingredients in dish soap that could potentially hurt your paint and dry out your weather stripping, although it can be used slightly to remove old wax... i'm not saying it wasn't an issue with a can of plasti-dip but the Dawn would be where i'd start. plus everything needs to be warm enough, almost the hotter the better but not too hot

Theres only been one serious claim against performix and its because the retard got his car resprayed, had fresh paint and plastidipped his car a month later, for several months, the paint never got time to settle or air out or whatever.

do you have the new spray tip?

Also, complaining about Plastidip doesnt really get anyone anywhere, because Performix never advertised it as a automotive product aside from tools, and plastidip just sells it. So theres no way you can really point a finger if it doesnt work out.

Nah I don't. I'm so.much better with an hvlp gun. I'm used to real paint so I think ill just order a couple sprayable talons and have at it when it warms up. That is after I paint my bike with real paint first. Priority of spring.

Why would you want a black plasti-dipped hood on a black car anyway?

Alright then, so what's my next option for candy blue. I don't know of a place around here to powdercoat nor do I want to powdercoat my regular calipers lol.

What if I do a regular caliper paint first, then a coat or 2 of plastidip?

There hasn't been any sunshine in the midwest, sadly enough.
