There's no point taking a chance with something like low oil pressure

Well from what little information I can gather, I think the oil pump pickup tube has fallen off the pump. It gets little spurts of oil when accelerating and shows normal oil pressure for a few seconds. While braking, it shows no oil pressure.

It's either that or the screen is plugged but that seems unlikely given the symptoms. The oil pump could be pooched. Guess I'm jacking the motor up and pulling the pan to see what I got going on in there

moroso makes pickups that bolt to one of the 4 bolts on the pump so it can't fall off. After my pickup fell off and my engine blew I bough the moroso pickup great upgrade

GM and the tool manufacturers must be in together to really **** people off. I need a universal to get 1 oil pan bolt off and my set doesn't have any. So I'm 1 bolt away from seeing if I have to jack the motor up to get the pan out.

On the plus side, I figured I might as well put the new deeper tranny pan that I bought in and since the inspection cover is off, my hi torque starter is going in

If you had a mechanics set of tools to work on your engine I bet you'd have it apart already. Throw a larger oil pan on there while you're at it

There are no larger oil pans for big blocks except drag pans. I don't want it hanging lower than the frame

Don't you go to work soon? So you have to wait to fix it

I leave Tuesday night. I should have most or all of these parts on by then. Biggest one is if I need a new oil pump

Take out the distributor and check the oil pump driveshaft and if you hook it up to a drill you can run the pump and see if it works

That would require 2 people. One to run the drill and one to watch the gauge

I could hear the roller rockers chatter when oil pressure was at 0 and the chatter would go away when the oil pressure surged for a few seconds
