Calgary - random talk thread
Mark simply said he was looking at rwd platforms and wanting to modify something different because no matter what he spends at the end of the day it's still a cobalt, I told him that's reason why I got rid of mine as well. I never claimed I was leaps and bound above on hp. When I sold my cobalt I had 350 to the wheels and probably the fastest setup cobalt in the city running over 20 psi of boost into a fully built motor. I just didn't want to race a cobalt so restored an 89 short box. I'm able to modify this truck till the point now where I can build it to plus 1000whp and still drive it if I want. My cobalt drive ability sucked towards then end. I never made fun of anyone with a cobalt or cut anything down. To each there own I was just sharing my experience. Come by some time and let your car do the talking vs your mouth and we'll see who comes out ahead
What weld it?

Ya I know you weren't well if there was a track around here I'd be down for sure
whoaaaaaa here. my thoughts on doing another type project is based on one simple reason. i miss rwd. it has nothing to do with racing paul. i love my car and i have worked hard to get it to a respectable range. however it does get disheartening to watch guys drop less then a 1000 and they match the amount of cash i have sunk. whats worse is every guy who runs a turbo has very little respect for the amount of blood and money lost on a lsj. this has remained true with every lnf owner. kevin is slightly different because he is one of the few who knows what it takes to do the things i can. without a doubt in my mind that there is very few people who has put forth the effort i have into their cars in this city. for a m62 car ol Edward is a animal.
that being said, i am a farm boy, i have owned trucks and rear drive cars. i have also been in the tuner scene forever too. to be honest people have a different attitude towards rear drive cars. they seem to appreciate the effort more. there is more potential in rwd, there is more hp capabilities in rwd. anyone who does not agree with these simple statements has no clue on cars. i could have a car like taylors and kill just about everything and still be just a cobalt. i could own a slow ass iroc and people would respect it.
jon you always said respect is earned. i agree, so 1000's hours, gallons of blood, several tools sets broke, blowing parts left right and center, 1000's of dollars spent and one fast m62 car is not a solid way to earn respect? lets face it no one will ever respect a supercharged cobalt. if you disagree then your saying the issue lies with me. if so then i will just fade away.

one last thing. i have a friend who has a magazine quality, big turbo crx, a complete nut and bolt resto. this car is absolutely beautiful and of highest quality. he spared nothing in building this car as it has well over 50 000 invested. that's right he has more invested into it then you, kevin, myself together in all of our vehicles. he to this day still gets zero respect and has faded out of the scene. he has more resect for a supercharged balt then most. certainly more then any turbo owner i have ever scene. the moral of this story is money means ****, its the effort that matters. most people don't realize i do a lot of the work myself, i also get help from some good friends. very rare is my car in the shop having work done. what you didn't know about him was he also did a lot of the work himself with the help of some good friends. we respect each other for the right reasons.
what i see in todays car crowds is that they assume most people buy their way to a fast car, that they pay people to make it fast. which in a lot of cases is very true. however in my case it is not. just like that bruins keychain hanging in my rearview mirror. MY CAR IS HAND MADE! so suck it!

i been in the tuning scene since the early 90's. growing tired of it. i miss doing donuts and brakestands. i want a vehicle that is just cool no matter the condition or how fast it is. something with some class and style. with raw power and torque. something that is simply badass.
as much as i love cobalts, they represents none of those qualities.
i am in no hurry to sell, i may even add a tvs. however, my eyes are open for the right deal and when i find it it will be done. im not looking to unload the car, it wont go cheap. i dont care if it ever goes. i am actively looking for the right car or truck to mod.

I understand where you are coming from Mark. Everyone has a different goal and different wants from their cars. I personally love playing the underdog story, and I like to surprise people. The true car enthusiasts will appreciate a proper setup with hard work put into it no matter what the car is, and the closed minded hicks like we have around here will always only have one idea of a what a "real car" is, and they will forever live in the 80's. Personally, I like setups that you don't see every day the most. Sure a H/C/I/E LS motor makes great power for example, but for me to own one I'd have to make sure it had a big blower or bug turbo setup on it pushing the limits of the stock motor before it ever left the shop. I don't like to be run of the mill, so no matter what I drive I will always shoot for something out of the ordinary with the setup because that is what I like. If I get respect that's great, but I have this inner joy out of people hating on my car. Call me weird, but I really like when people are disrespectful about it (like the GTR guy in MN last weekend
). Some people will buy a stock iconic car and be happy or add slight bolt ons and be happy that everyone knows what the car is, and that's fine too. To each their own. Just no matter what you do, and no matter what car it is at the time, just make sure to build it for you, not for what other people think. Do what you desire and don't let others get you down, instead just feed off of their negativity. Again, no matter what car it is, not just the cobalt in specific. There will always be nay-sayers, and there will always be people that will appreciate it. Take the good with the bad, and make of it what you want

i always wanted a old chev truck. fav year being 68-72, your all saying good luck, but i know where a few are in original rough shape. needless to say i would take on the challenge of turning it into a badass machine. hopefully i find one. if not i do believe i can still find my old 64. theres one thing for sure, it will be a big block when it is done.
I do not look for respect from others for my car that's why I don't take it to car shows. I built my car for me I think it's slow and would like more power. but overall I am very happy with what my car can already do on a K04 and how it handles and drives. I drive my car everyday and there is never a day that I don't want to be driving it or wish I had something else. Now a days people don't really "build" cars they bolt them together. Buiding a car is taking an engine that takes some thinking to put in not just bolt stuff on that someone else built to fit the car. Bottom line I think my car is fun and I love it and don't care what anyone else thinks
If you had a 64 chev with a 5.3 turbo like Taylor says that is a built truck in my eyes
Mark you have prob the fastest M62 LSJ in Alberta and you love superchargers what's wrong with that? And It's pretty easy to see you have put a lot of time into your car.

Tell me about it, i don't recieve notification for a couple days, and I miss out!?
Ah-hum.
I have always been quick to point out the pros for each version of our cars...
I have never said anything against the SS/SC;
I have pointed out to all who will hear it that the power spread between SC and TC are smaller than many realize (stock for stock);
I have though said that it took the TC package for me to even consider buying new...
Besides, who has the biggest underdog wrong wheel drive GM tuner here again?(!)
I know full well what you mean - no one here gives a hoot about this old n/a four banger...
I have even observed the fb groups veer into 'turbo & everything else', which is the exact thing I didn't want...
It seems to me that nine times out of ten the rwd guys couldn't give a hoot about the fwd crowd, because the fwd guys are beneath them...
------------
On a completely unrelated matter;
you guys all said that I "failed" for not buying the GMPP clutch set (advertised as an upgrade for, and exclusively for the LSJ cars);
please note the included decal(s), and the note at the top of the included instruction sheet:

----------
Regarding the "it's just a Cobalt" comments;
I'm fine with this, that's why I don't do appearance mods, and I have three varying stealth modes;
1) "stock mode"; bone stock appearance
2) "base mode"; spoilerless trunk, still factory badging ect. (to the untrained eye, looks to be a bone stock base car that some idiot put SS badging on)
3) "sleeper mode"; spoilerless trunk, still factory badging ect., hood bra.
3b) "winter mode"; same as #3, but rolling on studded winter tires.
I couldn't give two hoots if no one thinks anything of any of my cars;
What matters is that they put a smile on my face when I'm behind the wheel... now if insuring this Cobalt was a bit cheaper I'd be much happier

Yup me too I don't care I love my car. I'm rocking LSJ mode right now. Mark also thinks the wheels look terrible on my car
ok your right jonathan I was wrong. not every lnf owner are the same. I know 2 people who are not like the rest.
if you feel like there is part of the story left out, your right. I left it out due to respect I have for my friends and business associates.
jon was right about one thing. the comments of it is "just a cobalt" is me being pissed off. my true thoughts are the cobalt is the best sport compact car that was ever available.
I do want a truck I do want a big block but I am in no hurry and nor am I selling my car anytime soon. I will keep upgrading it and I will continue to be the underdog.
quick run down. I had some friends over to the shop. we were going out for some runs. dude I didn't know said a few things that didn't sit well. we met up with more people(business associates) in which once who he seen who my bros were gave me the respect everyone deserves. later that night we ran. lnf gmstg1 vs 2.7 lsj. to be fair and honest we had issues trying to get this race off. the cleanest run we had resulted in the closest race I have been involved in in ages. however race was cut short due to traffic and I was not even able to rev past 5500/6000. when we shut it down I was loosing by a less the half car and starting my come back. whether if I lost or won in the end makes no difference. i have even requested a rematch in accepting that i didn't win this run. however i do know the next time the end result will be different if he can manage to not upgrade any further. this includes a tune kevin. in all of this i have forgot to mention i lost to a new 5.0L by a half/full car length. unsure of his mods.
now this is to everyone. my talks of respect is directly related to the fact this dude was being pretty douchey to me at first. if someone welcomes you to his or her house you should have a certain amount of respect for that person. treating me like i am a idiot and ricer without knowing me don't sit well with me. nor would it sit well with any of the rest of you. respect is a simple thing guys. you all want to go on about how it involved my car, well your all wrong. he respects the car now i promise you he is already talking a new tune in efforts of not loosing to me. just like the rest of the lnf owners.
now with all this being said i understand and know people make mistakes. i wont hold it against him. just don't judge a book by its cover. without a doubt i have gone through big lengths to make this lsj fly. top it off i am using pump gas only. just think what it can do with the aid of meth and nos.
i have many guys in my life who have influenced me to be in the trade i am in. i have seen it all and whether or not i like your car or truck. my thoughts are simple. it don't matter if your a procharged 454 or a Filipino with more lights and chrome on a intrepid. "god bless you for finding this hobby. it will give you many highs and lows. regardless it is a whole lot better the drinking your life away or ending up in jail."

I'll race you on a GM STG1 tune.
Well anyways yes inviting somebody to your place and having that happen is not cool but it's good to see you are feeling better about the whole thing.
Side note we are all getting together on sat again. Mark you were right Sean wants to be my wingman/cameraman. I know Travis and Jon can't come but anyone else is more than welcome maybe big bird wants to come out to play??
this coming, and the past weekends are absolute write off's;
for the second weekend in a row we have a wedding in Lethbridge.
Thanks for the invite.
BTW;
I learnt yesterday the GM USA & Canada have ZERO lnf-f35's;
my car's warranty claim has been escalated, but apparently a manufacturing facility state side is getting a final component at the end of this month to put more f35's in GM's service inventory;
I believe my car is getting one of those, but it's looking like 'big bird' is getting r&r until early october.
The car has been sitting like this for aprox two weeks;
apparently yesterday the service manager actually got district manager authorization to put the car back together (mostly), to get it out of one of their bays until the replacement transmission arrives
