Calgary - random talk thread
.... lol the garbage that the factory puts on these cars is exactly that GARBAGE!!!!! if you do some research into tires you can find all seasons that preform in winter conditions.... like mine!!!!!! i will promise you it will take some serious snow to fall before i get stuck....
Justin's stock tires are different that what any SS came with from the factory, iirc he has goodyear eagle 205/55/16, not some perelli "all season" (read: summer only) tires...
I have run those exact tires on my Grand Am(s), and they are fine... nothing NEAR a studded winter tire, but fine none the less;
Those tires have to have around 3/4" of tread depth, and nearly 1/2" gap between tread rows...
Why Graham had such a problem with his car/tires... I dunno - but I'm in no way suggesting winter tires are not better, rather that those tres should be fine;
his car's freaking brand new, his tires are as good as they could possibly be...
were I in Justin's shoe's, I'd leave those tires be for this winter, and just take it easy.
No need to get (imo) extorted by a local shop for $1000 worth of tires...
ya i dont think grahams came stock with those tires.... i am not sure tho..... i am not a fan of the goodyear eagle tires however they are very soft and wide grooves in the tread help.... the factory tires on the ss/sc where as bout as good as the toliet paper i wipe my ....................... lol i am sure you can finish that thought.... however in general factory tires are garbage..... they are put on cars coz the manufactor gave the car company the lowest bid for them to use them.... thus you usually get garbage.... very rare do you get a great set of tires on a car or truck.... but it does happen once in while... ie: the srt 2.0 came with bfg g force.... however there again they are summer only....

I know that my Cobalt came with tires ideally suited for it in summer driving, and only in the Canadian brochures are they called all season - in the USA version of hte same brochure, I've understood they're called "summer only".
(I believe this is because Canadian law states the car should be equipped with all season tires);
But back to my Conti's, I believe they were selected becasue of traction & handling, and little else;
If I've understood correctly the OE tire was used for the record breaking Nuremberg run(s).
I know that Pontiac would often switch between Eagle & Tiger Paw tires for the FWD cars depending on model/rim selected;
I believe that the base tire for Cobalts is a 15" Continental all season, and the wheels/tires on car's like Justins are LT2 16" rims with the eagle's.
Sometimes standard and option tires will change from one model year to to the next...
Okay So my car origonally Came with these really crappy Hancook tires that they probably paid $0.99 for each tire. But Speaking of tires, jonathon your Contis are rated one of the bottom ranked tires for there class ( not trying to do anyside busting, Just sticking plainly to facts) I have Goodyear "Snow" tires on my car right now ( I have no idea what they are rated, probably low end but they do the job) and its a dream. And for the summer I have Ventus v12 evo which are rated in the top 3 for ultra performance summer tires.
Mark is right the dealers take which ever company will drop that penny off of there price cus you know $0.01x 900000 cobalts made= 9000 more profit so if they save $10.00 they make 9mil extra profit. makes a hugh difference.

Graham, I don't know who did the rating system you're referring to, or how it was made, but I think they are great considering their wet driving characteristics, combined with balancing road noise ect...
most of the higher ranked summer/competition tires are noisy, and are absolutely terrible when subjected to anything other than perfectly dry/ideal driving conditions...
Kris, did you get pulled over for hte ticket, or is a tint one a ticket which can be issued t oyou in your absence?
Steve; that looks great! - If I didn't know any better I would think it was made that way.

haha only stuck once on my summer tires, feel like a noob though for leaving it soo long.
Since we r all on the subject of tires, i bought a set of pirelli snowport's and find them amazing, this will b my third winter using them and never ever been stuck anywhere, mountains, city etc. when the roads r dry the tire supply's enough performance to have a little fun. ALL in ALL they were well worth the price.
Found a place to throw my winter's om for friday, everywhere else was well into next week.
did i mention that driving on the sport conatct2 in the winter really sucks ***** haha like slicks.

I know this is Calgary, but anyone here leaving the U of L this morning with a Red SS/SC?
The only other one I've seen in Lethbridge in about a year.
Also on the subject, I have Hankook snow tires that came with my car, and after the last couple days I'm thankful they came with the car. It would be awful without them.

In other news, I really need a remote car starter. I managed to lock my self out of the house this morning while I went out to start my car. I locked the door out of habit as I stepped out, however I managed to forget my house keys in my other pants... Not only that my cell phone was still being charged. Luckily I had my wallet on me so I could legally drive to work and so my day was ruined lol I had no breakfast, not lunch packed. Thankfully I went out fully dressed. That or I need my car keys on the same key chain as my house keys!
I'm getting used to the winter driving thing, there have been a few instances where my wheel spun unintentionally, always on ice. And twice my ABS brakes kicked in due to harder than expected braking. Other than that driving my car in the winter is at times fun! Especially when I pass SUVs and trucks that must not have winters or good all seasons. HA! Take that lol
OH! Is there another yellow cobalt SS with spoiler in town? I was behind one for quite some time on southbound Crowchild a few hours ago... Then we got separated by not one but two Hyundai Tuscons... I was saddened by this. Yellow is a great color for these cars
I couldn't tell how shiny the tailpipe was so I couldn't be sure if it was who I thought it was
