Emco USA have produced close ratio 3/4/5 gear sets for the M35. 1000 bux each set... just fyi....

I have never heard of them. Is anyone on this site running them or have they been tested for higher horsepower application? F35 you mean?

Heres the thing, people with stock turbos do not need a built tranny. I ran a full drags set up twice a week for two years on the stock tranny. Close to 50 1.7 60 foots on it as well. Why make a tranny that is going to be a stock replacement, there are alot of people going to bigger turbos nowadays. All you need for 7500rpms is valvesprings, nothing else. There is nothing to worry about with sleeves either, Also changing the ratios will only mean about a 5 mile per hour change from 7000 to 7500. The stock tranny gear ratios suck period. If there is a guy making new gears but only doing 3 and 4 why not take advantage of this and get the ratios where they should be?

random, but I want to go to whatever dyno you did for those numbers (lol). I have considerably less whp/wtrq on my dyno and i ran better times than your 1/4 on street tires.

the 4.45 is more of a band aid for the shitty gearing. What we would be doing is making more along the lines of the srt gearing. Also why would you like stock gearing? If your going to say because of highway pulls, if you think about it you will accelerate faster with the gearing I said. Get into fourth sooner which being 1:1 will make for a monster. We would have to talk with shep to find out the rpm drop between gears to make sure we wouldn't drop out of the turbos efficiency range to keep the pull hard and smooth. I hate getting into third at 75 and being in it all the way to 130 mph lol. Through a 26 inch tire on it Nd it's now like 140, which is gay lol.

Our gearing has always worked out really well for me. 4th gear is already a monster for me.

You have to remember... I have a 4.05 final, so mine aren't quite as long as yours.

Exactly why I have wondered why more Cobalt SS/TC owners haven't swapped out there 3.82 final drive trans for the HHR SS 4.05 final drive trans.

John Powell has stated that the case on the lnf is stronger than the lsj. That is one reason, I wouldn't mind the 4.05 as long as the diff is LSD and is as strong as the lnf one. The lnf diff is quafe or how ever it's spelled. Bit I deffinitly don't want the 4.45.

Even though it seems stout in 4th you are losing power do to it being an overdrive gear. I lost 6 whp on the dyno on the stock turbo from 3rd to 4th.

The HHR SS uses the LNF case with a 4.05 final drive. I have quaife (or however you spell it) LSD also and Brembos.

^^^^I'm really surprised this option hasn't been explored by Cobalt SS/TC owners already.

Off the top of my head I have no idea, but I do shift at 7k rpms 2-4th gears.

My 4th gear pulls almost as hard as my 3rd gear.

Next time i take the HHR SS out I'll let you know, I actually did WOT 2-4 gear pulls today shifting at 7k for a datalog for Vince to fine tune the E35 blend in, but I didn t look at MPH. I just watched the redline between shifts.

I would imagine the stock size. But that is a 4.05 ratio which looks like a nice option really.
