I will let you know how the 4.45 zzp stage 2 trans is and take some vids at the track when BYT gets the car back together.

Should be a interesting ride for sure.

I have been looking at some of the different options. That 4.45 with a raised rev limit like mine, 7800 rpms. I would shift to fourth at 108 and can run out to 143. That is alot better than I tought.

cmiller8006
The HHR SS LNF 4.05 final drive transmission in 3rd gear is exactly at 100mph at 7k rpms, as per the graph, confirmed by me today.

ya I posted a 4.05 chart. U dont have 4.45 and the simplest option and a smart one would be the HHRsouth idea of an HHR LSD 4.05 diff. Bolt in no additional work required... That would be a two shift 1/4. I am afraid 4.45 would end up being a 3 shift, but ya never know, elapsed time trumps traps every run of the day lol

4.45 maybe you could launch in second, but not if you got grip. etc. the transmission is pretty much unsupported mainshaft to cluster gear in the 3rd gear area which is why the gear pushes the shaft through the bell housing...

Interested in hearing a price either way so i know for my next trans. Think its gonna be hard to get 10 guys without some type of price posted but understand those numbers might be a little rough to come up with so far.

Keep us posted.

Hard to find, I imagine. HHR SS's aren't exactly something you see on every street corner, you know what I mean? If something happens, and this Shep thing doesn't work out... I'll probably look into getting one though. I dunno... I'm undecided on whether or not I'd want a 4.45.

lolwut?

Yeah, wouldn't be too bad unless you do a lot of long highway hauls, which I used to. I don't think it'd be that bad for me anymore.

u get used to it. I do lots of highway miles, like most of my driving is highway. I keep reaching for 6th gear, been driving too many corvettes. I may well put a quaife six speed in the car, or a cr 3 4 5 gear set. Ya never know.

Here I'll help you out bud:

car-part.com has 3 2009 HHR SS LNF G85 transmissions

1 is a grade A part with 31k miles $650 (PA.)
2 is $550 (TX)
3 no price listed (TX)

2 in your neck of the woods waiting to be snatched up

Thats alot cheaper then those 4.45 gears seeing as its a straight bolt in and go.

Yeah... I'm that way with my Volkswagen. I always check to make sure its in 5th, because the RPM's are so high, it just doesn't seem right.

Well, I don't need one now... but, if those are actually G85 Transmissions... those are fkn steals (or maybe I'm just outta the loop on trans prices these days, been 3 years since I had to buy one ).

The only way this won't happen is if all the guys that said they were interested all back out. We just need ten to get the ball rolling. If not we'll just be sitting here talking about who knows what instead of making progress.

The time is now for those few of you who are actually serious to contact Shep about a deposit and to ask him any more questions you may have.

I run a 4.45 trans from John 4th gear pulls are fun the car burns alittle more gas on the highway, but its not to bad. What's the best part is that this trans has lasted almost a year of beatings and still shifts perfect. My last 4.05 trans lasted 6months with less power....

Haha The most wait time we well have is after we get ten guys until they are manufactured.

All comes down to what he is going to change or do. My cash flow is a little low just graduating and all, but if it comes down to it I will prolly get one. I forget now but do we have to send him a trans first? Because that would be the determining factor for me, and then the whole switching to a 4.05 or 4.45 gear, but I still think keeping the 3.82 and doing the other two gears would be better because we will still have a good 5th gear overdrive as well, rpms wont be to crazy high at highway speeds.

Those are my thoughts exactly. I don't see why anyone would go that high when 3rd and 4th can be changed to exactly how we want them. First and second are perfect if you ask me. With the right size tire and rev limits this option could help the average racer quite a bit without needing more power.

Anyone else seriously interested? We need 8 more boys
