my parents bought one just recently. They went from a 2004 oldsmobile bravada. It was one of the limited edition last 500 built. In any case, my mom, skeptical at first has really grown to love the car. The gas mileage was a huge factor for her as she just goes around town to and from work. The bravada ate petrol, where as the hhr has increased her mpg by about 10mpg. She says its really easy to drive (she has the 2LT) and is really happy with it.

My take on it:

- Egress and ingress to the seats are GREAT! It's probably one of the easiest cars to get into or out of.

- 173hp 4 cyl is pretty "peppy" but it won't get you anywhere super quick.

- steering is light and fairly responsive for a non performance vehicle.

- cargo, my mom helped me move out to my apt and the only thing we couldn't fit in there was my bed. With the fold flat seats there is plenty of room to get stuff in and out of.

For a cheap, fairly economical, and in my opinion good looking vehicle it's not a bad choice.

What other cars were you looking at and what exactly is she looking for in a vehicle?

my step brogther bought one, he has no complaints for what it is. Check on some of the new ones coming out though, I think there were going to offer some new trim packages and a new motor option.

Last I heard they scraped it!
They were worried that they were ruining the name of SS!
I think that happened when they put it on The Malibu or for that fact the Silverado.

I don't think its scrapped, it's still a done deal, they're just done putting SS badges on car's that aren't substantially better performance wise....with the 2.0T and suspension tuning, this car would def. be worthy of the SS badge IMO.

They really should have put it on the Malibu, that was very stupid. But the current Silverado and Trailblazer SS's are stupid fast for what they are.

Last I heard the SS will be out in 08 with the DI turbo motor in the GXP. As for if the HHR is worth it or not, I love mine and know some other people that feel the same. Mine just turned a year old on the 2nd of Jan. No problems at all, just wish the damn snow would go away so I could wash it!!! Yes it wont win any speed records but with the 2.4 it gets around pretty good, and I am averaging about 24mpg around town with an auto. If you want to check out how other owners fell about thiers check out chevyHHR.net. Hope this helps.
