how to install Pacesetter cat back with no cutting!!!!

Ok lets get started. Unfortunatly there will be no pics, so my appoligizes but hopefuly this will help anyway.

1.jack the car up. If your car is lowered your gonna need to jack it high! I used drive on ramps, this gave me enough clearance to do the whole thing.

2.Spray some penetrating lube on the flange bolts on the cat. Also spray some on all the rubber hangers down the system, this will allow for easier removal.

3. While the pen lube is workin, the fun part begins. If you are using the drive on ramps, ur going to have to drive off them for this part. Place a jack in the center of the rear crossmember. Make sure it's good and center, it has to go up high so this will prevent too much tetering. jack the car as far as it will go. Place the jackstands under the car on the pinch welds in the back. DO NOT PUT THEM ON THE CROSSMEMBER!!! you'll see why in a minuite.

4. Take both rear wheels off. With them off, unbolt the rear shocks. This is conectect to the rear crossmember. With the bottom bolt off the shocks, lower the jack slowly. you will notice the rear member drop. Now you have enough clearance to pull the stock exhaust system out....WITHOUT CUTTING!!! This gives you the option of putting it back on for any warrenty work for the bitchy dealers.

5. With the exhuast out, take this time to look and make sure everything is cosher. With everything in check, install the Pacesetter catback, starting with the stright peice with the flange and move your way to the back.

6. Reverse for install and start the car. Check for leaks.

I got my pipes welded together at the local shop and advise the same, the clamps in the kit don't offer a very good seal. I also added an extra coat of rust paint to the system. I smelled preaty bad for a while but it helps. It will burn off at the pipe closest to the cat, its imposible to prevent unless you go stainless! Hope this little how to helps out!!

good write up, but that seems like more of a pain in the ass then just cutting it once...

i guess. Its more for people who have to deal with shitty dealers who wont work on modded cars or someone who wants the stock pipe intact. like me lol

cool deal, i had pacesetter/monza on my civic and I loved it. Everyone at the forums said that it was a crappy brand but I loved it, no problems and sounded better than 99% of those exhausts for civics. Let me know how it sounds im interested in getting on for my cobalt.

i have one on my pursuit. It sounds awesome. Its a little raspy when the muffler is cold but once it warms up its a nice sounding system. Its nice and quiet, then once u hop on it, it comes alive! lol. It does backfire a bit, but you can elimnate that by keeping the resonator on. I love my pacesetter. I think theres a sound clip floating around here

header and exhuast

im looking into getting the polished pacesetter exhuast monifold and the PS monza exhuast. Found a good deal at turbotechracing.com but the exhuast dosen't mention having a catback. Anyone know if i can get high flow cat that will fit without having to mod the exhuast too much? i know most exhuasts need some cutting to fit just right but this one is coated and the last thing i need is the exhuast rusting out becuase of a gap where is had to be welded.

u can find a high flow at canadian tire(pep boys and autozone for all you yanks! lol). Remove the stock cat and if ur lucky the aftermarket one might have flanges on it. if it doesn't, just cut the flanges off the stock cat, make sure their lined up properly and weld them on. then u can have a high flow cat and still maintain the stock flanges. no welding on the polished manifold!

my pacesetter cat-back should be arriving tomorrow, can anyone tell me where exactly i have to cut and if i can use a reciprocating saw to cut it. I am not messing up my alignment just to get a cat-back on, more money and more problems lol

good idea. it's easier to unbolt the bottom shock mount than to cut the pipe, IMO

so just unhooking the rear shocks lets you drop it down far enough? i'm guessing this is the same way you change rear springs as well...
