Pittsburgh Crew < You
Well here's the thing. You are going to chew through the R comps a bit faster at first until you get used to the grip. I would budget 3 sets this year, with your nationals set going on about 3 autocrosses before you go to Kansas. This will get them juicey and sticky. I always found about 12 runs would get mine perfect.
That being said, I will be a bit easier on the tires than you. Nothing personal, I am used to driving on them and you will no doubt catch on pretty fast after the first set or so. However, I only would plan on me showing up for about 3-4 events during the whole year but it will give you a yard stick to compete against for times in the same car. Think of my return as Rocky 6 in autocrossing. The old timer gettin back in the ring to see what he can still do
It may be easiest to send me your calendar and I'll let you know what I can hit a few weeks in advance!

I'll PM you later this week with BR's scedule and you can let me know.
They're doing a few in Washington, PA this year.
I was wondering where you've been. Saw a blue RL by the house the other day and thought about how I'd not seen ya since QS&L back in the fall...

Nada. Steigmeister (or whoever the hell it is) won't tell me what they use (of course...they want me to spend $1k to have the s/c built).
Otherwise, haven't found anything. There are upgraded snout bearings, and the bearings in the back of the s/c, but haven't found stronger needle bearings. Those are the ones that go, I suppose.
I've been insanely busy most days since then. Work, school work, other crap. Can't believe how fast winter / spring went.
Was about to get my F1s put back on today when I noticed on my toolbar snow showers forecasted? Wtf?
Anyway, we should all plan a big get together sometime early May. Dunno how much dragging I'm going to be doing this summer. Maybe once after I get the Cobra h/e installed, just to see if it helps. Otherwise, $25 for a lot of sitting around doesn't excite as much as it did last year. We can do that @ many places for free lol
Also, sometime in May, I'll plan to have ya'll here for some beer and food. Soon as I cut the grass and buy a grill.

Dave found ceramic bearings good for 17,000 RPM and supposedly produce a decent amount less heat. Both front and rear bearings. Not sure about the needle bearings.... Like 500$. Thats not too bad...
Or instead of trying to get lots o power by overspinning blower, do other things, such as head and engine work. Then toss a 2.8 on and save the eaton. Plus there is always the Holset way.
Isn't 17K pretty much the stock limit anyway?

Yeah I saw the same ones. However, feedback @ rlforums said it's the needle bearings which go, not the other ones. I'll still researching.
From what ive read its 16,000, but anything over 14,000 and the efficiency starts to drop off. With 17K bearings 2.7 is safe with 2.62 being a little over the limit if my math is correct (@ 7000 engine RPM). With ceramic bearings, at 17K, heat is cut down a third supposedly. Now of course, this all assumes my math is correct, and the places that i got my info from were correct.
So plenty of time this summer to work, write, drive.
Jon, glad things are well. You should come out and do a couple autocrosses... more seat time per $ and just as much fun.
I was a bit bummed my wheels won't be in until the end of the week at the earliest, but after seeing the forecast, I'm not so upset. I REALLY want to see the new wheels on my car. Finally I'll have something no one has here so far.
I need to start doing homework on these cars... you guys know too much...LOL

Took the supercharger completely apart today. First the good news: The snout is in perfet condition, the bearings are fine, and the coupler shows now damage at all. The bad news is that the needle bearings were destroyed. They apparantly ran without grease and siezed up. When i pulled the blades out the neddle bearings came with them in pieces. SO.....i took the blower into STAR and showed them, since the car is still under warranty. And they are going to replace it. Not sure if i'm getting the whole supercharger or just the casing and the blades. I doubt they would send certain parts of the supercharger, probably the whole thing. But now i'm just waiting for that to come in and then the ceramic bearings are going on and she'll be as good as new, literally....lol
STAR?
And that's good news. I still have like 40k on my "warranty" so could always pull it off and take it in lol.
Just didn't want to drive it, you know, save them the trouble. Just get me a new one...I'll put it on

I got the hyper black. If they look as good on the car as they do in pics, I'm gonna love em. Hell, if they look HALF as good I'll be pleased. THe tire size is a bit conservative, but for now I just want ones that will fit. If I find I have more room under there, then I'll be putting wider tires on the go round.
Dave, All I can say is WOW. I figured something in those SC's would have to give. That's been my main worry all along is the longevity of the SC.
I'll be eagerly awaiting to hear and see how all this goes.
GOod luck
My first step towards both a sport bike... and more autocrossing this year:

Well, actually the Class M learner's permit and signing up for that safety course might have been the first true steps... but this is the first real purchase towards a sport bike. Woot.

Dan... that's a sharp looking helmet. I think you should do your first A-X in leathers, the helmet and the gloves... that would scare the crap out of the tech guys....lol
I'm SOOOO stoked about getting back out on the courses this year.
Striker... I can say with almost 100% certainty I'm not going to be out that way in the evenings due to work. Sorry.
