Pittsburgh Crew < You
Yeah, I think I got you another houseguest. I somehow mentioned "drunk high school chicks" in front of Dan at Primanti's yesterday. I'm sure he will be in attendance....
Hey all! Finally back in the burgh. Easy drive back from the shore -- 6 hours. 32 mpg FTW!
I tell you what...I try to be "objective" about my car...I mean, it is a Saturn. But in Avalon/Stone Harbor, NJ....7 miles of nice beaches, and about 10,000 homes, none less than like $1.5 million (we just rent lol), the Saturn turned heads no matter where it went. This is in a land of BMWs, Mercs, Porsches, Land Rovers -- you name it. Everywhere you look.
Generally a WTF? look haha
So...someone sum up the last two weeks and what's going on this week? I'm actually working a lot the next two weeks, for a change. Got a teaching job w/ the Carnegie Science Center, which I'm pumped about.

Don't know what's going on this week. Wes and I are gonna be moving furniture around all week. My air conditioner has secretly been pissing water on my bed, while cleaning today I found mold growing on my wall and in my carpet, presumably probably in my mattress too. So we bought a new A/C unit and we'll be moving Wes' bed in from his house.
In the process of ******* with the old A/C I think I might have broken my wrist. If it's not better by Monday, I think I'm going in for x-rays. Right now it's just discolored and pretty swollen and I can't feel 3 of my fingers (which makes typing fun!). The results of that will determine the rest of the week. It's my right hand which is good, since I prefer to use my left, but shifting the car is a little hairy. I'm fine while driving, but getting from N to R or N to 1 requires the left hand. It's just compression wrapped now but still hurts like a mother, if it turns out to be broken and I need a cast, driving might not be the easiest thing in the world for a while.
Oh...but my tranny's starting to make fun sounds. If I coast at almost any speed, in gear, I get this steady warble sound. It goes away if I tip into the throttle at all. And the "can of rocks" is nosier...might be getting near a service visit...
We were on the next island up. Wildwood's more fun. And Mack's Pizza on the boardwalk FTMFW

LOL, yeah. They need to change it. It's not just the Detweiler boys anymore, my cousin is selling cars out there now too. And kicking ass. She wants me to learn how to drive a stick now so she can scare the **** out of customers on test drives.
Yeah, you can eliminate axles as a cause
. Plus if the sound were due to something fragile, or even something not fragile in the least, he would have broken it long before now. Which means you don't have a shot in hell of breaking it if he can't.
Any of you guys ever rebuild your brake calipers? < 10,000 miles and I think my BRAND NEW pads and rotors are shot because of the ******* calipers. They've been seizing since the car was new but GM repeatedly has refused to replace them because according to Day it's "normal" for calipers to stick. Driver's side front, passenger side rear, and passenger side front all stick to varying degrees. For the hell of it I'm going to take a look at the driver's side rear as well.
Basically, I don't have the money to fix the ******* things OR buy 4 rebuilt calipers since I'm relatively positive that the damn things have destroyed AT LEAST my pads if not my rotors as well. I know it's not the most fun job in the world to take apart a caliper but it can be done and I know some places sell rebuild kits, just wondering how much work I'm looking at.

That's usually a sign of "warping" or pad material build-up on the rotor. When you swap out for new rotors if you a) break them in right and b) don't do anything stupid with them, it will go away.
The thing with mine pisses me off because I literally JUST put new pads on. They'd squealed from day one, the calipers have seized from day one (wish I would have known what to check for when I had them off) and I spent a **** ton of money on new stuff just to have to replace everything ALL OVER AGAIN. Officially it's been 7,000 miles on the new stuff. Bullshit. I have some calls in with GM. I have 3 work orders at my house showing where the tech wrote that the calipers did in fact stick and even have on two of them where they typed in that it was a "normal condition" I just have to find where I filed them and they're going to get sent in to GM.

I swear my car's like Christine, out of that Stephen King novel. If I let her go overnight, my car somehow heals itself...
Yeah, you've been having brake problems with that car for a while now. I'd definitely be talking to someone about it...
In my case, it's more of an annoyance than anything else at this point. The car still stops fine and the brakes don't make any noise. I'm going to take a close look at the rotors tomorrow and see if they look or feel messed-up... I did notice a but of grooving, but nothing serious-looking. I think driving in Parkway traffic is killing them. My thinking is that as long as it's stopping OK and the vibration doesn't get any worse, I'll keep driving it as-is and keep an eye on the situation.
My Lumina Z34 was like that... would make odd noises or do strange things (such as shutting-off for no reason). After it sat for a while, the noise would be gone. That car had a mind of its own...

If you don't have smoke rolling off your wheels during driving (blue calipers or lugs as well) or the wheel pulling pretty hard to one side while not braking I doubt the calipers are siezing in all honesty.
I'm thinking of a team that could topple the Dans.

Second is you can hear them, once the breaks got down to the wear indicators, you could hear them squeaking even when no brakes are applied. Same goes now when the brakes are making noise, you can hear the brake noise even when there's NO pressure on the pedal, not even resting my foot on it. That and on the rears, after you release the e-brake and start backing up it sounds like a whale mating call and it's for sure the brakes.

they will be going on next saturday.. should sound beastly then
