FUEL Odor coming from injector area
Well recently had the LAP supercharged, started noticing a fuel odor when the Ac is on.
The smell is in the engine bay regardless, but I’m assuming Ac is just brining the smell into the car..
smell is either coming from injector 1 or 2, or the PCV filter. Evap is not leaking..
as anyone noticed a fuel smell coming from the PCV breather? or otherwise looks like I’m gonna be learning how to take the fuel rail off lol, see what’s going on down there

sprayed some throttle body cleaner over on my injectors the other day, didn’t change the idle.
Had some misfiring going on cylinders 1 and 2 recently, but they’re gone now and thinking that was tune related.
Tightented down the fuel rail a little bit more, pushed in some injectors that still had their green tabs up ...sigh
Secured a crudely adappted evap line the other day noticed it was missing zip ties(or the proper things) to hold the aftermarket tube to their OEM connectors.
I have the extended warrenty of a fuel odor, I don’t smell it externally though.

I also put a new evap purge solenoid in the other day, thinking a newer one would be quieter, nope.
I tested the new valve prior to installation, after installing, the noise was almost double at idle. Click click click click click******
I lasted about 3 days before I changed it back with the old valve.
At that time I tested the new valve again and I could pass air through it.
The old valve I could not.
coule be a case of dorman vs delco, could be a problem with the canister at play.
Might have to go cash in on some extended warranties real soon, give the stealership a laugh when the G5 turns out to be packing some heat under the hood 😆

You don't possibly have fuel leaking anywhere right? Don't want to end up burning the car to the ground. If you don't have leaking fuel really the only other potential source for fuel vapors would be if evap purge line isn't sealing correctly or leaking. You shouldn't have gasoline smell from your crankcase breather filter unless you have a significant amount of gas in your oil. Has your oil level risen at all?

None that I can see, can’t even see residue of fuel anywhere...
but it i drive the car home pop the hood and take a whif of the 1-2 injector area I get a good smell of gas.
Smelling by the evap: nothing
it’s very specific to that area. Engine oil level is at level, no changes.
I noticed by #2 injector clip is half on.... but I mean the rail should be holding it down regardless if those retaining clips?

talked to the tech, injector 2 is jammed up against supercharger he suspected it may cause problems when I told him about the raw gas smell, recommends rotating the injectors and removing the retaining clips

You could get some uv dye to add to the fuel and use a uv light to see if the injector body, seal, or fuel rail is leaking. With where it is there is a good chance its a slow enough leak in a hot enough area that its evaporating before it pools. Dye wouldn't evaporate that fast so you should be able to spot it after running it a while.

If you can't find the leak I would agree with Kolt to use some dye. You don't want fuel vapors floating around in the engine bay and if you smell gas there pretty much has to be some leaking somewhere because it evaporates quickly and if some had spilled it should be well evaporated by now.

Most engine oil uv dye works with gasoline just fine. Here is some at az that works https://www.autozone.com/test-scan-a...our/835775_0_0 , if you already have oil dye check the labels, should say somewhere what fluids its good for but just about any petroleum compatible dye works . Only thing about oil dye is you have to use more with gas since there is so much more volume that what normally gets used in the 4-6 quarts of oil.

Gotcha, thanks kolt, yeah Mopar UV dye says ATF, oil, gas, etc.
Im pretty low on gas right now (I think 45% input)
so I may throw in one more for good measure they’re only 7.39ml
and see what happens!

I would premix some of it in a gal of gas and put it in then flush the fill neck with another couple of gallons that way its not getting stuck to the filler neck. If the mopar stuff is like our gm stuff it sticks to anything when concentrated and doesn't wanna wash off and mix in.

Yeah was worried it wouldn’t even make it into the tank, that’s a great suggestion.
Will get a tech tech to shine an ultraviolet light in a few days see if we exposed the source

Went over a few scans in and out gas level is looking pretty good for each driving scenario (duration, did you boost, how many times, city/ highway)
One 25km highway drive with 5km city driving took 4.2L, boosted 5 times to 13 psi, banged a few limiters, so I don't think 4.2L is outrageous. (and I could smell gas prior to this scan)
compared to a year back as-well...
Took another look at the indicator, level reads full. didn't smell like gas.
Oil filler cap, smelt faintly like gas..the air was hot, so a head turner smelling that
PCV breather smelt a lot like gas, but the smell could rise from the injectors and get stored in the fabric..so not conclusive
I know my car has some blow by. Cleaned my intake manifold (when I was NA), removed some oil, checked on it a month later and the same amount was pooled up.
I know my tune was really rich for a few days, its possible I blew by a little gas
My city economy is crap but due to the way its driven
So to really see if I was losing excessive gas, drove home no boost today very economically
used 1.2L gas over 30 minutes and roughly 7km. Don't think I could do that 50 times in a row, but that would equate to a months driving to/from work on one tank...
so it must be very small leak, or possibly some blow by gas, thinking the only way to measure that, or to see if there is gas blow by, would be to install the catch I have

this maybe a silly question but are you sure your fuel lines are the source of the smell? They rust through over time. Just replaced mine last year and I have 107k miles.
Ive also started noticing a p2218 code that randomly comes and goes without tripping the CEL light. when its pending, the car seems to go into limp mode. Through my research, I am pretty sure the HPFP is leaking into the head. Their is a strong fuel oder in my oil when I check the dipstick after a good drive.
Maybe your HPFP is leaking?

Well no UV on the injectors, I’m almost thinking it is the PCV breather
lots of misfires today, at idle likes to count up in 2’s no dtc or cel.
Hmmm not sure now if I should try new seals...
The tech today wondered if the seals the injectors came with were correct for the vehicle?

Sorry, are you stating that because I have rough injector data I am smelling excessive gas and there really isn’t a leak?
id love to believe that, kinda makes sense to me
