wierd zzzzz noise

there's a weird Zzzzzz buzzing/ticking noise coming from what sounds like the passenger side of my car. you cant hear it at idle its only on acceleration, anyone have any ideas.

also my heat shield started rubbing pretty loud by my resonator, could the flex pipe have broken and its allowing the exhaust to shake more?

i dunno pretty annoying if anyone has any ideas it would help alot

That zzzzzzzzz noise is your timing chain tensioner.
Dunno about the heat shield.

I mean, I suppose it's a big issue. It's your car and completely up to you to whether you want to change it or not.
It's like a $40 part w/ shipping from CED. There's a a guide in the how-to section on the forums on how to change it.

it be so much cooler if a bumblebee was bouncing around my exhaust all pissed off, everyone says go to that post for how to install but there's other people saying you don't even have to do all that, there's a different version out, just pull the old one out and put new one in. is it that easy or should i have a shop do it

Ok so I bought the tensioner and put it in I'm assuming I needed it because the old one fell apart when I pulled it out, but the noise is still there, next step I'm gonna ghetto rig up some kind of smoke machine to find a leak I guess

Did you just take out the old one and put the new one in?

Could one of the gaskets between the midpipe and catback have gone bad.
I had a gti before this and the exhaust was all clamps so I've never experienced it happening

I had a hissing sound only on acceleration and I thought it was an exhaust leak. Come to find out it was a hole in my flex pipe. Then eventually my flexn pipe completely blew out and i was runing open headers. HELLA loud bro lol

Yeah, I was just gonna say.. if it wasn't the tensioner, most likely something with your flex pipe.

Holidai,

I see that you've already replaced your timing chain tensioner, and that you're now looking into gaskets. If you do decide eventually to work with a dealership towards diagnosing this concern, please let me know!

Best,

Thanks sarah I actually have a appointment Tuesday to get my power steering recall Taken care of and if I ccant fix it by then I'm going to ask them to look at it, if it is the flex pipe would it be covered under the same 10yr warranty as the catalytic being its part of the same pipe

You can also try tightening your header bolts down, some people have had a problem with them not being tight enough. I had a sound coming from the passenger side too and it was the header bolts. The bolts going to the head not the downpipe.
