my paint needs serious help

this weekend i finally decided that since the weather was nice i was gonna do some serious car cleaning. i washed it, then tried out the turtle wax ice liquid claybar, followed up with turtle wax ice paste wax. the more i worked at it, the more unhappy with the finnish i was. the liquid claybar came highly recomended, as far as im concerned it was a waste of money and time. waxing the car all i started noticing was all the fine scratches, chips, road tar, and swirl marks. now i know very little about paint detailing (ive never had a car with paint good enough to take care of), what i do know i just learned from the instructional vids on megiars website. i beleive my car has only been waxed once in its life. its an 05 victory red ss/sc.

as it sits, i dont have much of a clue were to start. i was thinking start with some touch up paint on the deep scratches and chips. from there, claybar it. i know to get a deep shine i need to use a polish after claybaring, however i have no clue on what type. do i use a scratch remover polish, or a swirl remover??? do i use a buffer to apply it??? after that, wax, but again, should i use a buffer to apply the wax, or just by hand??? am i close here, or way out to lunch?? what would you guys do??? what products would you use??? i do have a few meguiers cleaning products (wheel cleaner, interior, soap) and i know they are great stuff, but should i look into detail shop type stuff???

cliff notes: 05 ss/sc, victory red, paint in bad shape, road grime, swirl markes, scratches, chips, and i have no clue were to start.
