Spring rate selection
Spring rate selection
I have been searching for the proper spring rate selection to not only lower the car a tad but also compensate for my extra battery and sub weight. There is a ton of pictures showing what the lowered cars look like with different brands but nothing mentions spring rate etc. I know there are spring rate tables posted but again, i don't know the base reference point and how/what spring rate to select based on the weight that ill be adding. I have 1" Ichiba spacers on stock SS/SC 18" rims, with a little rub on the current lowering springs (and I have no idea what kind - due to being the second owner and previous owner was unsure as well), I just need a stiffer spring - just need some help picking out a spring stiff enough to get rid or at least reduce rub. If pictures are necessary, let me know.
Lowering springs rub because they lower. All cobalt aftermarket springs have rates that won't support the weight in your car. Your best bet is a pair of ss tc springs, but then you will lose the drop but gain ride comfort and clearance.
Or you can just rub, or go to smaller tires...

They are about 1/4" lower than SS/SC springs (not really noticeable, lol), but have better spring rates.
OP, all of the lowering springs out for our cars have crappy spring rates (powell springs not included, because they are a performance spring), and end up sagging over time.
