Beat a 5.0!
i don't believe that a stock 5.0 with a turbo will run in the 11 sec. quarter even if it is in st. louis. a turbo 5.0 would do well to run 13's. so come on mustang guys to be talking the same old tired ford guy ****. the mustang wins the pony car class by defaut only. there is no magic in the mustang. and 300 hp is about all your gonna get. and with 2.0 and a stage 2 you get 250 hp so let's do the math which one makes the most hp per cubic inch. and anyone can site something they have seen how about what you have and drive everday.
A 5.0 with a turbo setup is going to be one sick car and be very capable of 11s. A mild bolton 5.0 is going to a 13sec car with no problem.
What you might want to also look at is your still comparing a FI car against a NA car so HP/L is usually always in favor of the FI car. (Even though no one really cares about that.)
Heres what I drive every day:
4.6L Automatic 600+hp (500+rwhp) = 130+hp/L
Best Run with 525hp (430rwhp) 11.64 w/ 1.85 60'
I'll have a 10sec pass this Friday.

sorry guys just cause you want it to be so don't make it that way. talk is cheap and all your big horse power tales out you. i have been in this game for over 30 years and i call bullshit when i hear it.
For being into cars for 30 years you don't know ****.
well youve wasted 30 years. i have a very close friend that has a 302 based 306 (thats only 4 CI bigger than stock) running forged 9.5:1 compression pistons a ford racing z cam afr heads edelbrock intake manifold demon 650 carb 3:73s and headers running mid low 12s on old bald street tires. now to be honest thats kinda slow for 5.0s probably due to the low comp but its faster than most if not all cobalts on this site and it is his DD. he is about to throw twins on it and probably run mid low 11s if not better. i honestly think 10s are in it after that. so unless you actually have some legit info shut your **** holster.
yes and agian you are not taklking about stock or anywhere near stock application. 08 prem. gt mustang 300 hp. shelby gt 5.0 crate motor 340 hp. this is what i mean by ford **** you can't bring the fusion or the focus or the 150 to this party so you want to brag about the mustang V8 on cobalt site. you know the best way to get a mustang in to the ten second club...put a smallblock chevy in it.
2. There are so many thousands of Mustangs that will wipe the floor with your car it's not even funny.
3. This may be a Chevy site, but it doesn't mean I haven't contributed a significant amount of information, noob. I've been here for years, and when it comes to a topic I know about, for instance, Mustangs, I'm happy to add good information.
4. You have no clue how fast my Mustangs are. The Bullitt would demolish you without breaking a sweat. My all-motor V6 would likely hang with your mostly-appearance SS/SC, and I'm building a 4-cylinder Mustang (yes... FOUR) that will make your car look silly in a straight line OR on a road course.
Seems like a few of you guys could stand to learn something about Mustangs. You don't have to like them, but it would behoove you to have some clue what you're talking about.
For 30 years experience, you know very little about the capability of the 5.0 Mustang.
There are people who don't like them, and that's fine, but anyone with a fart's worth of knowledge about them know they're one of the cheapest cars ever to be made fast, and there are very, very few cars that can hang when you're talking bang-for-the-buck.
When you lose one argument, you just move on to a Red Herring?
Don't bother replying... just go talk about neons and appearance mods somewhere.
Stop making Cobalt owners look bad. This is an open forum for anyone! No point in starting a flame war over a few Cobalt owners who "think" they know things about cars!
I don't mind pointing out bad info about Mustangs or anything else for that matter, when it gets posted here.
In fact, I correct bad information from Mustang owners about Cobalts, too.
I'm a Mustang guy, but a car enthusiast in general.
i LOVE how much **** the 13 second car guys with "30 years of experience" are talking to the guys that actually have experience with decently quick cars. If you think the easiest way to get a mustang into the 11's is to drop a chevy SB in it, you are retarded. Go to your local track on a serious track day, not a test and tune, and i assure you most of you will see more fast fox's than anything else at the track. If you think talk is cheap, go to the mustang forums and call out somebody in your area. Your little can't break 300whp for the life of it lsj will get absolutely ROCKED i mean 20+ car lengths rocked by a TON of cars over there. There are all motor 5.0's on the stock short block that will rape any stock blower car on this site that doesn't have a big shot of the juice. Like i said, i didn't want to get into the 5.0 against the world thing, but jesus...you guys are just idiots. Sick ss/sc you are one of the most ignorant people i have ever seen. btw the 5.0 is not in the shelby gt...the shelby gt has the normal 4.6 with an intake/tune/exhaust change... and the 5.0 makes 400hp, which is going into the future boss/mach whatever they decide to call it...what's the issue here? have you ever even owned a vette or a camaro cause in 04 when i got my car, there wasn't a chevy anywhere near the price range of my car that i couldn't hang right next to. Even the ls1 f-bodies that stopped production a few years before. Only the people with 0 track experience think 5.0's don't have insane potential and think all mustangs are slow.
when you have a mod list like this-
2006 COBALT SS/SC,,CAI,ITD,PAINTED BOWTIE,STICKERS,RED LED UNDERGLOW NICE,COLOR MATCHED PAINTED RIMS,PAINTED INTERIOR,PROJECTORS CA 3 GAUGE POD, AIR/FUEL,BOOST,OIL TEMP. LOWERED 2.5" BACK,2 1/4 FRONT,235/35/18 TIRES, AND MORE TO COME
i label you an inexperienced ricer with no track experience. so where are you getting all this mustang experience? Did the guy at autozone tell you all about them when you bought your neons?

blainestang you of course are confused. i made no comment about the potential of the mustang. the comments were in reference factory stock cars. nothing i said is disputable. and i realy don't care about your bullit. you may question my comments intent but the facts remain the same. external modification has little performance improvement. less turbo or supercharer instalation. i know how sensitive some mustang owner are. but i have not been beat by a v6 mustang or a four banger out on the street yet. and as i told you i have been at this for a long time and so i am not at all surprised that you would be builing a 4 banger. i have seen this application i a number of pony stock cars. i also have an LS1 car that needs no defending. my comment was the 2.0 ss/sc makes more hp per cubic inch than the stock naturally asperated 5.0. do you disagree with this statement? and if so how so?

The only people in the world more touchy than Mustang owners are Chevy Truck owners (I am one.. so it's okay for me to talk) and defeated Ricers..
Yeah.. Cobalt's can be fast
Yeah.. Mustangs can be fast
Yeah.. There's even a couple fast pick-up trucks (My truck runs 8.80s in the 1/8 currently... not bad for an 89 model truck.. but no bullet)
Get over it..lol

Hey hey. What about all that cobra talk?
You can make 300 HP with the stock blower and motor, but its going to cost ya. Ported blower, machined snout, 2.5" pulley, meth injection, 60 lb injectors + harness, Cobra H/E, tune, spark plugs, CAI, full exhaust, 100+ octane tune, and a dual pass for good measure.
Better hope piston #4 doesnt go though, that is a tendency of the SS/SC.
The LSJ can handle 300 HP, but that is getting close to its threshold. Its best to use N20 to attain that high of HP just because it is less stress on the engine overall compared to a consistant 300+ HP SC or turbo setup. Not to mention less heat soak.
However, the 5.0l mustangs have an aftermarket close to the honda civic. The 5.0 is like the honda civic of the mustang world. Its cheap, the parts for it are cheap, and there is a MASSIVE aftermarket for it.
Cost and support wise, the mustang beats out the Cobalt anyday of the week. Its not because the Cobalt isnt popular, or a good car, its just that the mustang has been around MUCH MUCH longer. I love the Cobalt and miss the car. But one thing I dont miss is the lack of aftermarket. It kinda comes with the territory though when buying a car only 3 yrs in existence.
I see you are taking part in the ignorance around here. There is at least one guy on here making 300+ on a turbo lsj set-up. It's not simple, it's not cheap to do and it isn't common but it can be done. Now if you're trying to make 300+ with the stock blower and no nitrous, than your comment is fact.

Your facts about Mustangs and cars in general are completely wrong. It seems like you need to spend more time at the track than on the internet.
I have less half the "30 years" experience in cars and I could hand you your ass in car knowledge.
By the way LS1 Camaro is 325hp (5.7) 57hp/L so whats your argument for that.
I still owned my SS396 in the late 80's, early 90's those 5.0's sucked. I was bored, 12 to1 forged pistons .030 flat tappet cammed, holley edelbrock and hookered! Muncie, Hurst comp plus and 3.73 in the rear. 5 litre fords were a nuisance...I do however acknowledge that that is old school and technology has definetly improved cars. Who liked to stop 450hp cars with crummy drum brakes? btw my car only weighed 3100 lbs ,with me in it.
Fords can be fast so can dodge and the imports too. Have fun and race it on the track and show your skills and talents!
